✒️Motivation: Growing up is just learning to parent yourself
I recently heard this way of looking at self-motivation or self-control and I wish I had heard it years and years ago. Unfortunately, an idea has to be phrased a certain way to really click for someone. That's why I'm always trying to keep learning even if the topic is a repeat.
I wish my mom had told me growing up that adulthood is just having to parent yourself, and that it's an uncomfortable skill that gets easier with practice. 💬
Realizing I have to "parent myself" tells me no one else will do it and I can be the responsible caring person to myself that my mom was to me. It uses my ego, in a good way. But it's still always a battle with myself and I sure hope it gets easier. Ah, the life of a Rebel. 🤔
