#Authorconfession Dec. 8: I have a standing policy, easily recognizable as a "Steve Loy thang". The good guy always wins. Also, the good guy always gets the living crap beat out of him before he wins. Whether it's averting the apocalypse, saving the nation from unscrupulous politicians, or righting the wrongs of class inequality, the hero (or heroine) must suffer to get the job done. So I guess I come out strongly for happy endings, but notably sad middles.

I just watched Star Trek last night and the young, maverick James T. Kirk had the shit kicked out of him the entire movie but did finally save the day and become Captain.
