Micro story, mh, hoardings

Meanwhile, the Body in the terraforming continues to falter, unable to stave off all of the psychic, emotional wounds while being wracked by illness.

The Writer, running the graveyard shift, authors us all into an ugly account. The Analyst weighs the options and, recognising the rest of the Crew are exhausted and shaken, gives the order for chemical rest. At least the Collective Crew agree on this: there are lessons, and this too shall be navigated, no life lost.

Micro story, mh, hoarding

That’s when I learned my sewing kit had been lost to the war and there was nothing to staunch the bleeding except my hands, exhaustion and physical agony wracking my body, the war raging from within.

Mutely, I recall a lucid moment today: “people die from this kind of trauma”. The Analyst was running the ship at the time, and acknowledged the truth of the observation. The Renovator was busy sandbagging, scaffolding, diverting.

So I heard a rumour
about beings like you
wild things
who find creatures in clouds
sporispondence in fungi
and delight in others seeing
themselves as beautiful.

I heard a
you're a checkervest
who plays with paints
makes people laugh
and knows how to
rennovate holes in the soul
becoming whole.

I heard a rumour
it's an unconventional birthday -
wild ones aren't born
on ordinary days.

Nothing ordinary
for you, no boring
happy birthday.

I hope it's brilliant as you, @checkervest

"Where did you take my wife?!"
"She's dead, sir. They took her to the morgue."
"The morgue?! She'll be furious!"

The sentence, uncoiling,
could be
just the end
of some new beginning.
I won't know till the words tumble out.
but
by then they won't say the same thing I do now.
I'll still love them
until I stop,
that's why I hate them tumbling,
So I restrict their flow.
until the .. words ..
stop
then I drink, drink until tears become
proper sentences again,
then maybe
try again
tomorrow

It was the most exquisitely preserved Cretaceous fossil ever found. Right down to the skin: we could see every detail of texture and—miraculously—colour.

We sent it off to the synchrotron for detailed 3D imaging. When the scans came back, they surprised us. The pigmentation wasn’t inside the skin but on top of it.

None of us could explain this, until we showed it to the only woman on our team. She paused about two seconds and concluded, “Makeup.”

The zombie apocalypse was over. We had lost. They said had we been able to collaborate better on the Internet, we might have prevailed.

Pounding on the bunker door grew louder. We had only a few minutes. There was room for one person in our time machine. We voted. I was bundled in, protesting.

My job now is to prevent my timeline from happening. I’m in the legal team at Amazon Web Services. I just edited the terms of service to explicitly permit zombie research.

Small steps.

The Ssssa are our first galactic friends. They are very protective of us. I think they think of us as their pets.

Though they have a habit of believing any old thing that is said about us. Sffffi asked me yesterday, “Is it true that humans have only seven different stories? Don’t you get bored telling them over again?”

“Take a seat,” I told Sffffi, “let me tell you the story of The Xenobiologist Who Underestimated Something By Six Orders Of Magnitude.”

As soon as I replied to the prompts that I had "no time" to do them all, I knew that was a lie. So I used 8 minutes during my lunch break to do some oil pastel thumbnails!

Also @Curator I will take you on that 7 day challenge!

Rippled light gleams off a decorative diving bell, thrown from deck in a storm.

Within, a solitary nereite leans against the glass, so close to familiar waters but trapped in alien brine.

His song is subsonic, and calls his brethren from afar.

It churns the ocean floor, in armor forged from vent effluvia, legs undulating beneath a transparent carapace of a thousand mismatched plates.

As it trundles closer, ask yourself: does it roar, or is that merely the tectonic thunder of overlapping glass on glass?

So, I've been plotting my #MerMay novel ( #Unfathomed ), and I thought I'd do a bit of a game out of parts of the world building.

For every like (or boost, I'm not picky), I'll describe a facet of the world, the characters, the plot ... all without spoilers!

@checkervest Their nefarious deeds will be visible in their fabulous correspondence. Yours is the long game, do not give up!

My childhood home is on the market again apparently. It's my birthday in a few months, so if a few of you felt like going in together or something, I wouldn't mind having it back. Thanks!
