@jake2 @golgaloth Occurred to me as well some time after I wrote the comment. According to Wikipedia, the first film does feature a flamethrower but it's not used by Ripley. Guess the 70s were even more awesome than I thought if the production just let her play with a live flamethrower even though she didn't even need it for the movie (unless there's a scene that was cut/dropped)
