you: okay so you're gonna need a drill press--

me: look i'm a millennial alright. we dont have space for a drill press. but i DO have a handheld power drill, which i keep in my room, the 1 room which i rent, so i'll let that one slide

you: okay so now you're gonna need a few feet of scrap 2x4 that youve got laying around

me: look i said im a fucking millennial and we do not have space to store industrial quantities of dimensional lumber offcuts in our house!!!!!

Intro: For 33 years I was a professional journalist: reporter>editor>managing editor. I founded & ran, for 12 years, a nonprofit dedicated to helping young people write:

Now I focus on my own projects: a novel that has occupied my mind for 18 years; a journalism project: words, sound, images centered on a courageous opioid addict.

I provide editing support to several professionals & young people. I hope to give and receive feedback with you.

Yet another reason to be so happy with Plume blogging software!

LYNX is a text based command line web browser - ideal for folks with older hardware and less bandwidth.

THIS is what one of my blog posts looks like in LYNX. Granted I don't use a lot of fancy markup so that helps, but it's so clean and readable. AND even using a Pi Zero W as a client, it loads in the time it takes me to blink so well done Plume & well done Sunbeam Technowizards!!!! :_stars: πŸ§™β€β™€οΈ

@Alonealastalovedalongthe Hi! My band Fit and the Conniptions (bass/fiddle/drums trio now, wasn't always) has Bandcamp stuff here:

@lightone @switchingsocial Oh! I forgot #CCMixter, which is a remix site run as a CC project. You can also find CC music by looking at #LibreFM (

hairylarry boosted

@lightone @switchingsocial there's also #Magnatune. #BandCamp has some music licensed under CC, look for "some rights reserved" instead of "all rights reserved" at the bottom of an album page. It's a bit hard to search for CC music on BC though, and the same is true of #SoundCloud. There's also:

There's a number of CC music sites, Jamendo is one example:

And yes, if it's CC it means you can share it non-commercially legally.

@switchingsocial Could you recommend where to look for bands that release their music under CC licences? It would probably mean their songs could be shared on Funkwhale without any copyright violation (giving the proper credits).

#CreativeCommons (CC) is a way to let people share your work without giving up all your rights.

For example, many bands use it to let fans legally share their music non-commercially, while still being able to charge companies for commercial use.

It's really easy to add a CC licence, just pick the one you want from the official site and add it to your work:

You can add CC licences to almost anything, including text, music, video etc.

Anyone else using I'm enjoying it so much I'm thinking about throwing the 12 bucks on them.

Such a clean writing surface. It inspires me to say very little. I mean a lot in few words.
