We've reached a point where we'd like to start developers to work on the roadmap 💻 :writefreely2:

This would be remote, contract-based work for now, with a chance to go full-time later in the year (assuming all continues going well). You'd be creating free / open source software.

I'll have more details soon, but especially if you're a / developer and want to work on a growing project, I'd love to hear from you!

Some neat things about our Mastodon instance:

We have a public directory, where you can discover writers here:

writing.exchange/explore

(Anyone on our instance can add themselves from their profile settings.)

You can also browse our local timeline without being a registered user:

Writing Exchange update

I have to say, it's delightful watching people essentially become pen pals in a digital space that was never designed for commentary or much social interaction at all (though, we never designed against it, either).

Happening now, without blog comments, @-mentions, or notifications on read.write.as / @readwriteas

Hello, writing.exchange. This is my post. Writing has always been something which I enjoyed and have been appreciated for in the past. It has been quite some time since I wrote my last blog article. However, it has been perhaps an even longer time since I wrote my first blog article. It's good to be a member of this community. I am seeking to get back into writing and need to explore where I can begin sharing my work with a community that can find my works beneficial. Cheers

👋 Hello writers, allow me to make my !

This year I resolved to take one of the ideas bouncing around my head and force it into a book - my first.

A City In Stand records a utopian society confronted by world-breaking storms. If all goes well, my characters' happy, stable lives will be shattered and they'll be forced to recreate their entire lives.

I'm here because I want to absorb other writer's processes through osmosis. And make writer friends.

Hello writers! I have been writing some ironic free verse on @ironic-free-verse and I am about to start some more in-depth writing, as well as a new blog. With more complicated topics I want to work on tightening up my work and getting into a consistent writing flow.

@Gargron Quick question: any thoughts on having Mastodon respect the custom "commentsEnabled" property that PeerTube, PixelFed, and (soon) WriteFreely send out?

It's discussed here: github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/, but I'm just wondering your interest as far as hiding / disabling the reply button in Masto when this property is set to `false`.

Lastly, I'm (@matt) still in Portland until late Tuesday, so if you're in the area and want to grab a coffee, let me know!

Anyone wanna look over some poems tonight?

Opened a long-running notebook for the first time in a while last night...

Whereas the first year I wrote in it (2010) had 50+ pages written, last year I wrote 3 sentences.

So I sat for a few minutes and wrote until I ended up in a new place. I felt the ink on the paper, basked in the varying scribbles I made, poured out some honest words, and made some discoveries that instantly lifted my mood. Just *writing* did that. I don't do it nearly enough.

I'm Misha.

I'm a programmer and designer but I've got dreams of being a writer. Last year I decided to take my hobby a little more seriously and start learning.

In addition to the work I'm doing for a writing class, I have two novels in draft state, one of which I hope to have fully revised and publishable by the end of the year.

Some of my short works are here: mishafrankenstein.tumblr.com

As far as interests, I like spooky/Halloween type stuff and I listen to a lot of metal.

Hi, I'm new to this instance. I'm 26/F, and interested in writing; particularly poetry and prose.

This is mostly just something for me. I've realized more and more lately that I have a lot of stuff to express, but I don't have much of an outlet.

A little about me: I studied in college, but I'm also interested in , , , , and . Oh, and I'm queer.

Thanks for listening to my !

That’s what we call a lock-in, a monopoly over our lives. Cutting from them even if we don’t pay them anything willfully has a price we pay in time, effort and money.

They catch us in their webs and never let go.

If you're at all interested in the development / progress of and , I'd highly recommend following @writeas_dev.

Whereas I try to keep this account low-volume and limited to the important stuff, the dev account often contains what we're working on at any given moment, as well as new issues, small fixes, and our future plans.

Even if you're not a developer but instead run a WriteFreely instance — or just publish on one — there's relevant information for you there.
