Want to turn your blog into an eBook? We just launched a new feature to do just this — eBook exports for all your blogs & hashtagged posts!

We'd love for you to try it out. Take a look at our announcement to learn how to participate: discuss.write.as/t/ebook-add-o

Along the way, we'll build the admin side for the article author, which will let them see replies they've received in the fediverse. Then at some point we'll accept Webmentions and surface them there, too.

We'll build this in stages, starting with private replies -- easy, since it's just using email.

Then we'll do public replies, where you can only reply with a Write.as account. Keeping it limited to our platform will make it easier to get the UX right. But it'll use underneath everything.

Starting to work out the details of a commenting system for @write_as / . Core ideas:

- Public or private replies
- Necessary friction for the comment-writer

Bandcamp will be holding a fundraiser tomorrow to support artists, during which they're waiving their side of the revenue share.

If you've been thinking about getting some new #music, or supporting an independent artist, that would be a great time to do it.

I'm in San Antonio this week for ! Come stop by the @write_as table if you're at the bookfair, or let me know if you're in the area and want to grab some coffee.

Personal perspective, again and again: We need *human* technology, not *corporate* technology. But human technology can't be about things such as "privacy is more important than convenience". Human technology *has* to consider usability, accessibility, availability, ease of use, reliability, stability first-class citizens above everything else and not just as something devalued to be a matter of "laziness" or "convenience". It needs to be technology for *humans*, not *techies. 😐

Not sure if / when we'll merge this. While I'm a fan of new functionality like this that doesn't add complexity for the end user, it does complicate things for admins, with another configuration value and additional setup needed to run in production.

What does everyone think?

On a long train ride, from DC to San Antonio. Apparently I'm in the mood to code for fun this week, because I just added Gopher support in : writefreely.org/pull/273

I will be starting the upgrade to v3.1.2 for all Mastodon servers hosted on Masto.host

There will be an under 30 seconds downtime during upgrade.

v3.1.2 brings some fixes and a security patch, you can read the release here: github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/

Any issues or questions please let me know.

Steps 1-3 complete. I held off on code as long as possible. I'm now writing a basic static site generator for this mixtape 😄

Also a blog post is expected.
