This is a test #WriteFreely instance on a non-ASCII domain: https://bär.writefreely.dev. This is supported by changes in #457, which automatically converts a Unicode host name for a WF instance into its Punycode representation, which is then used throughout the application, including for ActivityPub requests. As such, this blog should function just fine in the #fediverse! Feedback? Reply and mention @matt@writing.exchange.

Well, I drank coffee after 2pm today and I suppose that means still being awake at 2am.

Hi! 👋
My name is Mari. I am an Italian aspiring translator and journalist.
My studies (I've been writing my Master's Degree thesis for years now 🎻 ) have revolved around French literature, but I've dabbled in studying classic English and German lit as well.
I've always wanted to write, but something has been stopping me these past few years. I'm opening a blog (private for now) as a bit of a training and I'm hoping to find here a motivating and inspiring community. :)

Bruce Schneier on Signal's cryptocurrency adventures:

"""

It’s not just that blockchain is just plain stupid. It’s not even that Signal is choosing to tie itself to a specific blockchain currency. It’s that adding a cryptocurrency to an end-to-end encrypted app muddies the morality of the product, and invites all sorts of government investigative and regulatory meddling: by the IRS, the SEC, FinCEN, and probably the FBI.

Doing some #WriteFreely maintenance today, merging long-standing pull requests and fixing some bugs. I'd like to wrap up a v0.13 release this month, ideally. Yesterday I put things in place to support “allowed” apps on the API, and today I need to look into some apparently availability-related publishing issues.

Talking & connecting is a basic human need, so why should we allow our online interaction to be seized by companies that (by commercial design) are after personal data? Especially for public services like national/European administration citizens deserve to connect in a way that serves them, instead of data-hungry third parties.

NGI Zero is happy to announce a series of webinars and a workshop organized together with the #ActivityPub-community & #fediverse-devs on April 19, 26 and 29.
