One of the things I love about The Dispossessed is that LeGuin doesn’t pretend that once anarchist society is established it’s all roses and freedom and happiness because she jumps right into all the contradictions of living in a society conceived of as a revolution and keeps on interrogating that. It’s great! Even the bits at the end that are heartbreaking but also familiar because, yeah, we’ve all dealt with that even in the spokescouncil model blah blah blah bleep bloop

Amazing though.
I'm always fascinated by etymology maps, like this one for the word "orange". Fills me with wonder at how connected our histories (and invariably we all) are.
Being a speaker of Tamil (one of the oldest living languages in the world) and Malayalam, my theory though is that the word could have originated in Tamil, which precedes Telugu (and is maybe older than even Sanskrit).

Watched the excellent Dare mo Shiranai (Nobody knows). This was one of those films that tapped directly into an inherent fear i had as a child - what if the adults of the house (mom and dad) suddenly disappeared, never to return for days, leaving my sister and me to fend for ourselves? What then? That thought alone was enough to induce a cold hard knot in my stomach.
Been a while since I put pen to paper. Owe it to myself to write more, no matter how subpar the writing seems. Blog post on the way.
