Malina and the Border Banners, Chapter 15 (A Story for B)

A sensation washed over her, a feeling like the whole land was laid out in front of her.

She'd thought of it like a big line, not all that wide, maybe the distance one could walk in a few minutes.

In front of her, the land spread out for days in all directions.

Malina gasped.  "It's huge."  No, it was more than huge.  "It's  - it's impossible.  There's not that much land o

"I make excellent knives," she preened.

"As a hobby?" he chortled.

"As a business."

"A hobby business? That's cute!"

"It pays my bills."

"Like, the fun bills though right? Not the serious bills? It must be nice making a little extra cash on the side."

She sighed and placed an ornate dagger on the table before her.

"Wow, that's pretty. Here I thought you made real knives."

It took all the wait-staff to keep her from stabbing him.

The witch watched. She was unseen until she was ready - sorting through her satchel of lockets.

A maiden gasped as the witch manifested, beckoning with a silver crow on a silver chain.

"Thank you," she spoke for the first time in her life, throwing down her mop and fleeing the castle.

The others stared after her, amazed.

One by one, all their voices were returned.

The witch smiled as the home that had tried to silence her too, crumbled.

so now my plan is: convince husband to move up to that town with me. he hates small towns. he's not fond of the one i'm pushing for. this was going to be a temporary work thing.

but it will be so much better for us. and if i can just get him up there...i think he'll notice the difference.

but step one is getting this place clean and our things reduced, so that we can be *ready* to move.

and that is a monumental step.

so writing? it's on the backburner right now.

the plan has been for *ages* for us to escape this place, but we've been here since 2014 now and it feels like it's taken hold of our souls.

so when there was a chance for me to get a job in my mom's town, i took it.

the past several months of living with my mom have PROVEN that environment is a HUGE thing when it comes to battling depression. trying to treat an infected wound that can never get clean is a losing battle.

i haven't written anything in about 3 weeks. i've been down in vancouver visiting my husband in that time.

wish i could say i haven't written because i've been too, ahem, busy with the spouse, but the truth is i've been too busy cleaning our messy place and fighting depression.

i'm not depressed abt being with husband; i adore him. but the place we rent is slowly killing me.

my latest attempt to be raw and real on my blog: swamp demon cleans up, the before.

includes "before" pictures of the mess i'm currently trying to tame.

oh wow, mastodon finally has a light theme. i can use this site without getting a migraine now. sweet.

i can feel depression
settling over me
like a well-worn sweater
and i don't have the strength
to rip it off
fuck off mate
it's summer
i don't have time for your shit

maybe a too-hot night
will wake me up
from its
soporific charms

Finally completed another episode of ! It's been too long. I forgot how much fun this is. Hopefully next chapter will be up soon.

I'm doing again this month, as well as . You can see all my posts at my Instagram, but here's my first one at the very least -- intro to me, my main character, and a synopsis of my (still ).

Today: only 4 words on , but 499 words on a new that's been bouncing around my head since January (just hadn't had a chance to sit down and get any of it out).

My streak continues.

despite having a cold and feeling like butt I wrote 833 words today on , so that's pretty nice.

Now I have to put my game face on, go to school, and ace my test in my first class. I'm skipping second class though; coming home to sleep. Huge midterm in another class tomorrow and I need the extra rest. Also extra study time.

School is really kicking my butt. Even when I get 8 hours sleep, I could probably use another several to feel rested.

So happy Study Break happens after tomorrow. I need the week off -- even if I am spending it traveling up to see my mom.

Only 13 words today on , but they count. They all count.

It's Tuesday, so it's my "whatever I can get out is good" day. Ten hours at school today + an hour this morning studying; 4:45am wake up. I'm happy with any fiction output on Tues/Thurs.

A three-day #TwitterPoll:

People whose genders differ from those they were assigned at birth (including #trans people), when you personally use "male" and "female", what can you intend those words to describe?
