Question for the general public:
When you have several long-running projects, but the one that keeps popping back to mind is one that you immediately backburnered when it originally presented itself, do you work on the one that's presenting itself or on one of the existing projects?

This backburnered project is now at 1700 words and hasn't even hit the main action sequence, and I'm probably going to end up building a small Lego model of the setting so that I can figure out shading and perspective and angles for illustrations, because the model I described in meow.social/@glowingskull/1021 is just too good to pass up.

3443 words now, and I've got the protag past the "what the fuck is going on" hump; now paused at the "how do I escape" hump.

Show thread

3720 words, and now I have a scale model of the interior of the building that most of the action occurs in, built from Lego, for use as a photo reference for illustrations.

Plus the protag has an idea of how to escape, now.

4564 words, and we've reached the point in the process where dream logic has surrendered to rational actors, but now I need to decide how the character escapes a convention center:

5092 words, and there's a squirrel going full meerkat in my yard with an acorn in his mouth.

I received some useful advice over at reddit.com/r/rational/comments on how to resolve last toot's question. I'll probably go back through this story once it's done and fill in bits of the MC's thought processes.

5200 words at last count, but progress on this story has paused mostly while life priorities took the fore.

I think I successfully quashed the idea in writing.exchange/@ontploffing/

Thanks to content, now I want to write a story of an AI self-diagnosing themself with dysmorphia-related mental issues through forum posts. I'm gonna hold off on this until I get some plot progress in this big project, however.

5654 words. That's enough that I can go write up the story without feeling like I'm neglecting this story.

And then I'll start on the Secret Krampus writing prompt. 25 days to finish that one.

Haven't got any idea what to do for Krampus, but for this 5800-word story I now have an art reference for the main character's hair. Takesawa, with the short, light hair in the left bottom of the chapter title page: mangakakalot.com/chapter/after

That 5800-word story is now 6000 words, and I'm looking at it again today, and am amused/saddened by the date on the story of June 16. It probably won't be done until Christmas.
