I write short fiction drabbles at ontploffing.tumblr.com, and my current long-term writing project is a #Hobbit what-if fic where the technological advances of "Saruman of Many Devices" occur 78 years earlier, at Lake-town. Any #Tolkein or #fanfic peeps here?

@DuthOlec That's always a good reason to insert a character. And it's one of the primary conceits of The Infinite Loops meta-series of fanfic, which is why it's fun to write for. Any character can break character and snark up the serious moments. Most have.

@bilbo Thanks! But there's nothing published yet (this fall, probably) and the only #worldbuilding posts exist under a different pseudonym. It's basically http://comparativelysuperlative.tumblr.com/post/115319338286/so-there-was-this-sword-passed-down-as-an using Carl Gustaf recoilless rifles in a http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/FanFic/SarumanOfManyDevices version of the Hobbit.

I used to do a lot of fan-fiction, for like 5 or 6 years in fact. I'm not a big fan of Tolkein but I like it enough to rewrite an existing scene where one of my characters is there for no reason other than to make jokes and ruin everything.
