Anyone know what kind of tree this is? The leaves are small and roundish like a eucalyptus, and kind of a dark purple green color, like the color is confused which way to go. But the most amazing and distinct feature are these ‘furry’, red tufts all over the tree dotted with shiny gold seeds (I presume) that stick out all over them. And I mean they shine like polished gold. It’s a fantasy tree. I’ve never seen anything like it. Photos are best I could do, but not great. #trees
Excellent! Thanks. With that search I found this ‘European Smoketree’, which goes through a remarkable change of appearance. Two colors in the ‘smokey’ summer stages.

I since found another one more in the green/white ‘summer’ stage in a really shaded region. Direct sunlight must facilitate the change to that purply red color.
@wion Huh. Neat! I'd no idea that sun/shade might change the color. But have only seen them planted in full sun.
It’s just a theory, based on the only two I’ve ever seen. ;)
@wion Given I've no additional data points to add, I'm happy to go with that theory for now. 😁
@wion Looks like a smoke tree to me. They come in lots of colors but the ones that grow around here are usually in that burgundy-purple range.
