Hey 👋 it's easier to follow an account than a hashtag, so I created this one for Read.as.

Read.as is a long-form reader, similar to Feedly, built to be a peaceful place to read things from the fediverse :fediverse: -- particularly from long-form platforms like #Plume, @write_as, #Microblogpub, etc. In the future it'll also support RSS and curating what you read on your own profile.

It's built from scratch to be #FOSS, and is still very early in its development. But...

@gutigen Most of the federation code is there in @read_as! The rest will be released as a piece of software you can actually host yourself before the end of the year.

@write_as @read_as Alright, but you may want to refrain from calling your project #foss until it actually becomes one 🙃

@write_as Can I use read.as without write.as? If no, then you advertised your whole project as #foss, which is a lie.

Also why did you make your answer unlisted?

@gutigen Of course, each project is independent, but also connects in some way. You can use any without the other (except Snap.as at the moment).

I made the reply unlisted because we're having a personal conversation. This isn't PR or something.

@write_as But you can't create content without write.as, which as of this moment is still proprietary... Let me guess, you hope to get some funding or monetize it, which is why it's not #foss yet, right?

There is nothing personal about this conversation, so yes... this is PR.

Don't advertise as #foss if half of the project (the more important half) is proprietary.

@gutigen Again, never advertised that Write.as was FOSS. Read.as is.

It works with the entire fediverse, including Plume, Pleroma, Mastodon, Microblogpub, etc.; you don't need Write.as at all for it to work -- that's the beauty of open protocols like ActivityPub.

I'm not sure what we're talking about here.

@write_as Honestly, your whole projects... cause I don't see it.

@gutigen I hope you'll understand if I don't rehash everything I've already written on Write.as in a single toot.

But if you really don't see the point, that's cool! Not everyone needs to get it. I'm just a guy putting things out into the universe for anyone to take or leave :)
