Want to try out #WriteFreely? We've opened up registrations on our test instance for the next few hours!
Just fixed an issue with our federated blog signup page. If you couldn't sign up because of a "reCAPTCHA" error before, now you can!

All of these federate through ActivityPub:

As we get closer to the release of #WriteFreely we want to know: what's most important to you in a self-hosted blogging platform? What's missing in the others you've tried? In what ways would you use a simple, federated one, like what we're building?
Just updated our Contact page to be a little more clear about what you can expect when trying to get support, and which channels we prefer to chat on.
In short, expect a response during normal business hours, EST; email is best for private messages; the forum is great for public questions (we answer once, and everyone benefits); and we're a small team of humans (not chatbots), so responses to lengthy questions may take a bit.
It's #NaNoWriMo again! Every November we open up some of our Pro features made especially for novel writing. That includes:
- A higher character limit — all posts have the Pro limit of 500,000 characters
- The Novel blog format — this puts your blog's posts in chronological order, so each one can be a chapter that'll be read in-order
- A dedicated NaNoWriMo blog — a free additional blog just for your novel this month. Let me know if you'd like one!

After this Pro price increase, we'll be making more pricing changes over the next month or so. I really like where it's at today (as do many people), but while it sustains servers, it ultimately doesn't pay for the people making the software and running those servers.
We're trying to supplement that with Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/writeas), but I think the best way forward will be giving people software in return for money at a price that sustains us -- especially as #WriteFreely is released.
Backend is set; now on to the last phase for #WriteFreely: cleaning up the frontend. Includes supporting your various configurations, removing Write.as branding and paywall code still tangled up in there, and maybe shrinking down the stylesheet (not pictured here, of course).
As part of my work on getting us to sustainability — both for our upcoming open source platform and future products — the monthly Pro plan will go up to $6 / month on November 1.
Existing subscribers are grandfathered-in, so if you've been thinking of upgrading, now's a great time to get in on the lower monthly price. Otherwise, our annual Pro price will stay the same.
Just launched a few new plans for anyone who needs more responsive help, support for multiple users under one account, or custom functionality.
