Good amount of fixes and changes going into #writefreely already -- I'll probably release v0.2 early this week.

Fixed some very small stuff with installation, as well as big stuff like federation with #Pleroma. boosted

Just fixed an issue with our federated blog signup page. If you couldn't sign up because of a "reCAPTCHA" error before, now you can! boosted

Blogging on the Fediverse Show more

Open source for two hours and already getting better -- thanks to some help from @kaniini, now boosting posts in the fediverse should always work. boosted

A big announcement is coming this afternoon! We'll announce here and on the official WriteFreely blog: @writefreely

As we get closer to the release of we want to know: what's most important to you in a self-hosted blogging platform? What's missing in the others you've tried? In what ways would you use a simple, federated one, like what we're building? boosted

One minor difference you'll see in #writefreely: "Anonymous" posts are called "Drafts".

This is a great use for them already on @write_as, so they'll retain their function, but now the name will match.

Just updated our Contact page to be a little more clear about what you can expect when trying to get support, and which channels we prefer to chat on.

In short, expect a response during normal business hours, EST; email is best for private messages; the forum is great for public questions (we answer once, and everyone benefits); and we're a small team of humans (not chatbots), so responses to lengthy questions may take a bit. boosted

Nice feature for #NaNoWriMo, @write_as allows posts in chronological order for blog to display in novel format! boosted

It seems every month has an excuse to stop drinking now. I'm doing dry November and documenting it on @write_as. If you're interested it's at or you can follow @bkam on Mastodon for new updates.

It's again! Every November we open up some of our Pro features made especially for novel writing. That includes:

- A higher character limit — all posts have the Pro limit of 500,000 characters
- The Novel blog format — this puts your blog's posts in chronological order, so each one can be a chapter that'll be read in-order
- A dedicated NaNoWriMo blog — a free additional blog just for your novel this month. Let me know if you'd like one!

More here:

Previously you couldn't go back and view older hashtagged posts — this is fixed now, as well as deleting or moving posts from those same pages.

After this Pro price increase, we'll be making more pricing changes over the next month or so. I really like where it's at today (as do many people), but while it sustains servers, it ultimately doesn't pay for the people making the software and running those servers.

We're trying to supplement that with Patreon (, but I think the best way forward will be giving people software in return for money at a price that sustains us -- especially as is released. boosted

It lives!

Backend is set; now on to the last phase for #WriteFreely: cleaning up the frontend. Includes supporting your various configurations, removing branding and paywall code still tangled up in there, and maybe shrinking down the stylesheet (not pictured here, of course).

As part of my work on getting us to sustainability — both for our upcoming open source platform and future products — the monthly Pro plan will go up to $6 / month on November 1.

Existing subscribers are grandfathered-in, so if you've been thinking of upgrading, now's a great time to get in on the lower monthly price. Otherwise, our annual Pro price will stay the same.

Just launched a few new plans for anyone who needs more responsive help, support for multiple users under one account, or custom functionality.
