I've updated the Switching Social Handbook so it has more practical advice:
If you've already bought it, you can get the latest version free by logging in and downloading it again.
It's a DRM-free ePub file, it should work on most eReader devices and apps.
(If it offers you multiple ways to log in, use the bookshop's own Kobo or Rakuten Kobo option. There's no need to use any other log-in service.)
#WriteFreely is a free open federated blogging platform. It has a minimalist approach so that readers concentrate on the text.
It federates with #ActivityPub so you can follow blogs through Mastodon etc.
Existing Write Freely instances you can sign up at:
Installing your own instance:
Fully managed hosting, if you want your own instance without doing techy stuff:
Put together a comprehensive guide for contributing to #WriteFreely — everything from documentation to code. This will be an evolving document for outlining our current processes, communication channels, places the project needs help, etc.
Any questions still? Anything I missed?
I was getting increasingly doubtful of Medium as a blogging service for my devlog, so I'm happy to have migrated over to @write_as
It's looking pretty clean!
You can even technically follow the blog on the fediverse, although I'm not entirely sure of the use at this stage.
You can follow @florence to always receive updates!
Does Mastodon Spark Joy? No. -- meet Florence:
Just launched Write.as Labs, a section of the platform for experimental new features, available to all Pro users. We'll be using this corner of the platform to try out different ideas, gather feedback, make improvements, and then bring the feature into the core product (including #WriteFreely), if it makes sense.
Our first feature is an alternative web-based editor with a more traditional UI for publishing to Write.as -- the Classic Editor.
Try it out now on Labs: https://write.as/labs

Planned maintenance Show more
There will be a bit of downtime (up to 30 minutes) on February 4 at 01:30 UTC while we do some server maintenance. This will affect blogs on a custom domain or writeas.com subdomain, but not the main application, API, etc.
