One change to the #WriteFreely admin dashboard coming in v0.9: a new section to manage instance-wide static pages, and the ability to create new ones outside of the predefined About and Privacy pages.

Just created our Zapier integration! It enables you to publish a blog post with another triggering event on their platform.

We need to reach 10 users to launch this to the world, so if you're interested in trying this out, you can get the integration here:

Trying to gauge potential interest in supporting publications on that are larger than simple personal blogs. Sound interesting, or unnecessary? We'd love your input.

At we had writers respond to a small prompt: "Describe a place that feels like home"

You can read some of the responses on @readwriteas:

Lastly, I'm (@matt) still in Portland until late Tuesday, so if you're in the area and want to grab a coffee, let me know!

And tomorrow we'll start getting back to everyone on some of the support requests we missed late last week.

All finished with the conference in Portland this weekend! It was a great couple of days getting out into the community, talking to writers, editors, and publishers, and introducing the platform to more people. We'll have a blog post up about it soon. boosted

Just finished migrating my site to a much cleaner and simpler Write Freely platform, thanks to @write_as for the excellent product! I will easily be donating to the project very soon :) It's now up and running at

I'm not entirely certain if federation is working for it yet, but I have a few pinned pages to prep and whatnot first before I fiddle with that. If it is working, the settings page says the handle is ""

New in Labs: email subscriptions!

This is a very early, very experimental feature, but I'm excited to launch it for everyone and start putting it through some real-world testing.

What are your biggest questions as someone *writing* on the platform? Looking for feedback on what to include in the Writer's Guide here:

New article about on (note: paywall):

It's great to read something like this from someone using it for the first time: "WriteFreely has achieved its goal of making it possible to set up a new blogging site with a minimum of effort."

But also plenty of valid criticism there that'll help us making the project better.

We'll be at in Portland, Oregon in 2 weeks!

Let us know if you'd like to grab coffee before or after the conference. Otherwise, you'll find us at booth #10096! boosted

The email subscriptions feature will involve new processes that regularly check for posts scheduled to be sent out via email, so with that in place, we'll be able to support federation on scheduled posts, too.

This was mentioned in #writefreely issue #76 (

As an ongoing project, I'm hoping to get #WriteFreely federation working with all #ActivityPub-supporting platforms.

Just tested with #misskey and saw it wasn't working:

Still need to see what works with #hubzilla and #osada boosted

My thoughts about getting Medium-style "Publications" on the #fediverse (on @write_as or otherwise).

I'm not sure how it'll work, but here are some vague ideas. Let me know what you think! boosted

Just started a new blog at using (@write_as)

It's pretty awesome that enables me to add my blog to the fediverse at

2018 was the first year we received requests for user data or to have content taken down, so we're going to start releasing an annual report with this kind of information.

Read about the requests we received in 2018 and how we responded in our latest @intheopen blog post:

New on @readwriteas: global hashtag browsing! Now you can browse posts across all public blogs by topic, like :

If you publish publicly, be sure to add hashtags somewhere in your post. There's no algorithm here; the humans behind will periodically look at popular tags and choose certain ones to showcase at the top of the site. boosted boosted
