In bike news, I got a ratcheting wrench, but it is much smaller than I was led to believe. So thanks, Amazon. I tried to use it anyway.

Unfortunately, despite checking multiple sources to ensure I was turning the bottom bracket correctly on either side of it, it is firmly jammed in. I just can't get enough leverage. Worse, the non-drive side is completely thrashed now. The plastic of the shell is so old and so brittle, it broke into pieces. It's bad.

I'm also concerned that the prior owner may have tried to service it. They either put the bracket in backwards and forced it in, or really badly cross-threaded it.

I tried more WD40. I am going to try getting some penetrating oil (like Croil).

I have what I hope is the right replacement bottom bracket.
But I am starting to run out of funds for this project. Hoping to sell the folding bike and a barebones server I'm going to clean and rebuild this weekend. If I can get the money, I may just have to throw in the towel and go to a bike shop. I still have to try to service the headset too. Sigh.

I'm exhausted after a challenging day. I know I keep saying I will post pictures. But I'm frustrated right now and need to step away from the bike until tomorrow.

An hour ago I was at Kaiser Permanente Berkeley, unlocking my bike and preparing to leave after picking up a prescription when two white men hurried out of the building towards me holding up and aiming their phones at me. Because who every sees a 68-year-old Black woman who owns and rides a RadPower Bike, so I must be stealing it.

I have this fantasy about living somewhere that I'm not a suspect, but unfortunately being trans means having other Black people treat me just like white people do.

#30DaysOfBiking Day 10:
Today is cool (45F, 7C) cloudy and damp feeling, but almost no wind. I rode my #bike to double appointments, coffee with the hockey guys, and a tech consult at the same coffee shop after. The challenge was road construction AND a water main break which led to a significant detour. Then after lunch I rode my #ebike to Menards to get some plastic tubing to repair our backyard water fountain. A total of 18 miles.

“Kyle Ranson, CEO of southeast #Portland-based apparel company Showers Pass and founder of electric #bike brand Vvolt… said he’s got a shipment worth $1 million waiting at a port in China that would cost him about $1.2 million just to clear customs.

For now, the plan is to sell through existing inventory and hope that provides enough cash flow to survive… Ranson says if customers are feeling sympathetic, the best thing they can do is make a purchase.” #BikeTooter bikeportland.org/2025/04/09/lo
