#Google funds this #EU think tank to put out policy papers saying #DigitalMarketsAct will break their lovely #PlayProtect scare screens, making us all less safe and "it require[s] Google to allow developers to insert links inside their Play Store apps".

As I've always said in relation to the #DMA, let @fdroidorg compete on trustworthiness. I'd love to see this think thank include analysis malware rates of #CalyxOS with #FDroid and compare that to #GooglePlay #security

@avoca

Heliboard was a fork of another FOSS keyboard (OpenBoard, I think) which seems to be a fork of the Lineage fork of the AOSP keyboard.

The only thing this AOSP keyboard (on #CalyxOS) is missing vs. heliboard from what i can tell is the T9 switch for the nunpad, and the option to use the google proprietary glide typing library.

@1br0wn Yes indeed, it would be great to have a community controlled version of #AOSP. The hard part is that Google still is the largest contributor to Android by a large margin. The ROM projects have started to work together, but not enough to get community control. The #CalyxOS team has put quite a bit of effort into trying to get this idea going. The key would be to get companies to switch to a community-controlled version, e.g. Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo, etc.

I'm glad that I have a Google Pixel 8a and not a older model. There have been many reports of Google Pixels exploding! It's horrendous. I would strongly recommend against buying anything older than the Pixel 8 series.

Disclaimer: I'm not a expert and haven't deeply researched this topic, but I considered it important enough to give everyone a warning.

If you run a custom OS like #lineageos, #calyxos or #grapheneos on your #Android phone, you might risk loosing it and being unable to track it due to the lack of Google Services.

FMD is an OSS app + server that helps you track your lost device without the use of Google's Find My Device.

@drose

I don't remember it being as annoying on #iPhone, TBH. The phone call would always be at the very top of the notification shade (IIRC), and would be highlighted green or something.

At least on the #Android build I'm on, the phone call is either tiny, or just not listed in the notification shade at all. When you're on the lockscreen, you must get out of the notification shade to answer the phone.

When your phone is unlocked, you have to use the notification shade to get to the call (and it's not prominent!!), because opening the phone app JUST OPENS THE PHONE APP, and doesn't take you to your call at all.

It might just be an #AOSP thing or possibly just a #CalyxOS thing, I don't know.

I'll have to test it now, I'm curious.
