As you plan your week ahead, don't forget to get your #FOSSY talk proposal in by Monday, April 28 (anywhere on Earth)! You can do it at https://2025.fossy.us/call-for-proposals/ . We are a small team putting this big event together and greatly appreciate your help in making sure everyone in your #freesoftware and #opensource circles knows about the opportunity and deadline! #portland

@robin

After much hesitation, I decided to go to #FOSSY2024 and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of voluntary compliance... though I suspect that is unfortunately quite rare. The leadership at #FOSSY also committed to masking up, which I think was significant.

It was also a local conference for me, so a bike commute; I would be a bit more nervous spending long hours on planes or trains or busses.

Good luck and hope you manage to stay safe!

#fossy24 hashtag had some info, the event was 2024.fossy.us

Focus is on "free and open source software", I organized a BOF session on "open source software for radio" and had a good mix of existing hams, new hams, and people who were interested to learn more.

The #FOSSY event is organized into rooms (consciously modeled on FOSDEM) and the room organizer(s) help recruit the talks on that theme and track.

Just wanted to express how grateful that #FOSSY is here in PDX. I would not have gotten my FOSS fix given how limited travel is. As a community manager, it hurts not being able to be exposed to new ideas.

I didn't go much to any tracks - I attended my own talk and a keynote panel that I was invited on and I spent the rest of the 3 days continuously talking! Best hallway track EVAH!!

At this weekend's FOSSY conference, hosted by Software Freedom Conservancy, Sugar Labs executive director Devin Ulibarri presented on the importance of mentoring youth in free/libre/open-source projects, and how Sugar Labs is structured to support such mentorship at multiple levels. Devin highlighted four youth who have come to Sugar Labs through various entry points, how they contributed, and how both youth and mentors have benefited through working together on meaningful work. #FOSSY #FOSSY24

Listening to KPSU, "Portland's College Radio", outside the Smith Memorial Student Union on the Portland State University Campus. "Montgomery Plaza" is one block of street that forms a piece of a good-sized pedestrian way.

Yesterday there was a farmers market a block from here, and the FOSSY conference has been here since Thursday.

I'll be following the "FOSS Funding and Economics" track today
