I just did something I haven’t done for 6 years - book a flight 🫤 I’ve sworn off flying for climate reasons but always said I would fly in an emergency situation, and my uncle’s funeral at the other end of the country counts as that. Since I’m going all that way I will stay on for a bit and catch up with family and friends. It’s a sad reason to travel but it will be lovely to see all the fam.

I flew my mother down to Schaumburg (06C) from Appleton (KATW) yesterday for some lunch. I had never been there and moreso I have never been under the Bravo before. I thought I'd be clever and file IFR so I can get their via the Bravo but I learned they have you cancel outside the Bravo and then go under it VFR. Glad I planned all that out anyway. Lesson there is when you think you're smart, nuh-uh you ain't.

It's a bit annoying when travelling families don't select seats in advance, and then other passengers get asked to move to less appealing seats in order to accommodate them. If you're flying in a group, select your seats!

#Hongkong is well known for its skyscrapers, but increasingly both locals and tourists are exploring the numerous #hiking trails that the city has to offer. Ma On Shan is a beautiful country park and #mountain range in the new territories in Hong Kong. It is known for some easier but rewarding hikes through its lush forrest and along smaller rivers, but particularly for its spectacular views over the Shatin and Saikung areas. When one reaches Ngong Ping plateau it is very likely that one would be greated by #paragliders that are enjoying the upward winds along the hills.

After the Young Eagles rally I had some time and decided to fly around a little. I got a ram mount for my yoke and wanted to test it a bit (I like it a lot more than having the ipad on my thigh). I also "suffered" a little spontaneous disassembly of my air vent and had to wait until I was back on the ground to mess with it.

Overall, a nice flight seeing things starting to turn green.

A successful Young Eagles rally at 79C this morning! The clouds lifted and we had four aircraft going. I flew 8 total and all 8 had never been on a small plane before. It was a challenging crosswind at Brennand since the runway isn't very wide, but I had some great landings.
