Janis Ian, a top singer-songwriter. If she predates your time, give her performance a listen. Its sentiment is universal, especially regarding pain in the early teen years, a pain that often persists. If you like it, try her song Stars, also beautiful. I'm sorry the sound isn't super great on this, but I love the visual recording of her band in action. The studio recording is pristine and just as gorgeous. Janis Ian still performs today.
