Jon Hancock<p>Melodica take two.</p><p>The cheap and faulty model is going back for a refund, replaced by this rather better instrument. Decided to go for a known brand, made in Japan, instead of another dip into the vast ocean of all plastic, mainly identical Chinese offerings, which are very much built to a price. As you might expect, most of the options at this end of the scale are in garishly bright colours to appeal to children. Jon Hancock<p>Continuing with Chas McDevitt's Skiffle book, I was surprised to learn—although I probably shouldn't have been—that Peter Hearn, who constructed a mini folding washboard for player and singer Beryl Bryden, made an electric washboard. I'd never heard of such a thing!
