Backstory:

Kaladus is 15 years old, considered a man in his culture, though unfortunately he is a runt for his age. He and the other children in his village of [insert village name here later] were trained to fight from an early age due increased monster activity on Limbrand, and Kal shows exceptionally strong skills in that regard despite his size - most of it comes from fanatical hard work and determination.

Like so many children on Limbrand, he is an orphan. He is quite close with one of the older warriors of the village, 21-year-old Ardan. Most see it as brotherly relationship, but it may be much more.

As the world is overrun with demons from the rift, their monsters, and their human followers, people flee to the south, hoping for refuge under the remaining power of the dying gods. Everyone has lost hope; except for Kal. When the sun god Yin visits their village conscripting soldiers for one last stand, Kal is the sole volunteer, inspiring Ardan and some others to join him. He proves himself in the coming battle, and before Yin takes her final breath, she gifts her powers to the boy, hoping he can continue the fight. When he attempts to use his new power to close a rift, he is pulled away to Earth.
