Swede’s Photographs<p>Whimsical Woodland Sprite</p><p>This whimsical sprite is playfully dubbed a tree gnome (Nanus arboris)—just kidding! But doesn’t the bird’s crest resemble a gnome’s hat? In reality, it is a tufted titmouse (Baeolophus bicolor). These charming little birds frequent the nearby forest and often visit my backyard feeders. Their visits are brief; they swoop in just long enough to snatch a sunflower seed or peanut before darting back to the safety of the trees.</p><p>Tufted titmice are a favorite among a select group of bird enthusiasts. Brian Dear<p>This poor guy hangs around the neighborhood, always alone, and is often seen crossing the road around here.</p><p>His right antler is completely missing and he walks with a limp. </p><p>When he crosses the road it’s at a not-a-care-in-the-world pace, or, more likely, it’s the best the poor guy can do, given the limp.
