Starliner’s flight to the space station was far wilder than most of us thought.
@ArsTechnica interviews NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams about the dicey docking: https://flip.it/ULXi0A
Took a trip to see some ships and a fort. Check out what I saw: https://ko-fi.com/post/The-Civil-War-and-the-Space-Age-N4N11CUC8Y

WOW! What a great read. The #astronauts from the #Starliner tell us what the flight to the ISS was like.
SpaceX has launched four astronauts to Earth's polar orbit for the first time.
NASA astronauts speak after unexpected 9-month stay on the International Space Station
After returning home earlier this month, NASA astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore spoke to the media about their extended nine-month stay on the International Space Station.

After being "stuck" in space for 286 days, NASA astronauts say they’d fly the Boeing spacecraft again. ‘I’d get on in a heartbeat!'

SpaceX blasts off first human spaceflight, taking 4 astronauts on Earth’s polar orbit
Crew members will attempt to exit the spacecraft without medical assistance after re-entry, helping researchers study astronauts’ post-spaceflight capabilities. Unlike previous missions, Earth's polar regions have remained unseen by astronauts, including those aboard the ISS and Apollo missions. The things you learn by going into space and visiting other celestial objects!
The dust on Mars is likely very toxic to human beings. It contains silica, gypsum, perchlorates and nanophase iron oxides, some at toxic levels, and they are are microscopic meaning they likely could migrate into an astronaut's blood stream. Plus the particles are very sharp and pointy so they could easily damage human lungs.

There's another book, a graphic novel about women astronauts:
Astronauts: Women on the Final Frontier by Jim Ottaviani & Maris Wicks, 2020
In the graphic novel Astronauts: Women on the Final Frontier , Jim Ottaviani and illustrator Maris Wicks capture the great humor and incredible drive of Mary Cleave, Valentina Tereshkova, and the first women in space.

Did you know that how we experience time is not obvious?
In 1962, explorer Michel Siffre descended 130m underground. He had no #time cues with him.
He repeated the exercise several times with other people.
He discovered that with the absence of light, humans adjust to a 48h (instead of 24h) time cycle.
He had been inspired by #space travel & #astronauts confirmed his findings.
His last expedition covered New Year's Eve 2000, but he overslept by 4 days.

Back from space, but the journey isn’t over! #SunitaWilliams and #ButchWilmore are now facing a long recovery process. Aging speeds up in space, and bodies need time to readjust to Earth's gravity.

Astronauts' 9-month stay in space could help with healthier mission to Mars
As astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams acclimatize to Earth, the effects of being stranded in space for nine months, and their recovery, will give scientists a chance to improve preparations for long distance flights.
