Sligo coast

The photo shows a coastal landscape with a view of the Atlantic. In front, the rough and angular grey-brown limestone stretches into the foamy sea. Monochrome image. A sunny day with a clear sky. We are looking out from rock cliffs atop a mountain. Several hundred feet below a portion of a lake is visible with the rocky face of another mountain rising precipitously from the far side of the lake. This mountain is taller than the one we are on. Much of the side facing us is sheer rock cliffs and the summit is also naked rock. There are also large swaths of forest along the slopes, mostly pines mixed with some leafless hardwoods.

Late afternoon at Strandhill

A scene by the sea. Lush dune grass can be seen in the foreground, backlit by the evening sun. Behind it stretches the bay of Strandhill with the reflection of the sun on the calm sea. The opposite shore can be seen darkly on the horizon, above it a fluffy band of cloud, behind which the sun is just setting.

Been watching the seals the past few weeks along the coast path when out on runs.

Some have been basking in the sun on the surface, bobbing along, others have been moving frantically just below, potentially hunting and others just moving gently along like the one in the picture.

Photo taken whilst freediving a few years ago and looking forward to getting back in at some point this year after a winter of swimming and surfing, as fun as they are, nothing beats enjoying the natural world below the surface too!

Look down on Dunquin Pier

I remember the day I took this photo, in August 2020. When I arrived, a group of young women were taking selfies at this spot and from my perspective, they looked like they were standing on the edge of a cliff. It’s still dangerous, but it was a calm evening and there was plenty of space if you’re an invincible teenager, unafraid of your mortality.

At the time, only pubs that served were alllowed to open due to Covid restrictions, but B&Bs and hotels were open. Breakfast in our B&B in Dingle was strictly monitored, with guests having to book their times so the dining room didn’t become too crowded.

Wild Atlantic Waves

Waves crash onto the beach and rocks of Couminole Beach, Co Kerry near full tide. A dangerous beach for swimming at the best of times, it would be foolhardy to go swimming there in conditions like this!
