If #civilization began again from scratch, what kinds of societies would evolve next time? #Communal, #capitalist. #theocratic, #meritocratic, #secular, #egalitarian, #exploitive? Societies are usually a combination of these types, but do they always combine as we expect them to? Are our choices about the type of #society we create completely up to us, or are we constrained by the environment and circumstance? Tomorrow is the last day I’ll be giving away my novel HUMAN to FediHumans. Visit bretthodnett.com/FreeHUMAN.htm and use the code ‘fedihuman’ to get your free EPUB!

bretthodnett.comHUMANA remarkable exploration of family, society, and what makes us human, HUMAN will take you from the post-apocalyptic world of the near future, to the two very different societies that emerge 15 million years later, where those few surviving individuals have evolved to become something that we might not fully recognize as human.

Today in Labor History January 21, 1525: Conrad Grebel, Felix Manz and George Blaurock founded the Swiss Anabaptist movement by baptizing each other and breaking a thousand-year tradition of church-state union. The Anabaptists were considered Radical Reformers. They preached against hate, killing, violence, taking oaths, participating in use of force or any military actions and against participation in civil government. They also believed in separation of church and state. However, some Anabaptists went even further, like those in the Munster Commune, who called for the absolute equality of man in all matters, including the distribution of wealth. They called upon the poor of the region to join them in sharing all the wealth of the town. Many also believed in polygamy and free love. Not surprisingly, both the Roman Catholics and the nascent Lutherans persecuted them heavily. This history is wonderfully portrayed in the epic novel, “Q” by the Italian fiction collective, Luther Blissett.

i'd object only in one thing: #Capitalism can't be reined. Its constituting principles are directly opposing a #communal human livelihood. In capitalism, things are only produced in expectation of a profit. The benefit for the community has no relevance. And the measures to rise profits (rationalization, fragmentation, commodification) are causing the atomization of communalities. This must be transformed to a cooperative mode of living and producing in community.

Today it’s the third day since I moved to #Berlin.

I spent the first two days getting things sorted, cleaning and setting up the house, and getting acquainted with this incredible city.

Now that the basic things are out of the way, I am starting my tour of Berlin’s hackerspaces.

I want to get to know the city by connecting to its #independent, #communal, #anarchist, #cyberpunk spaces. I believe hackerspaces are the best way to do so. There are too many, it is wonderful and overwhelming at the same time. I love it.

My first stop has been #xHain, the hackerspace closest to where I live, in Friedrichshain.

It seems like exploring a dreamland. Not exaggerating: this #hackerspace embodies my greatest ideals and dreams.

I feel I will be spending a lot of time here.

Would you pay $6 for a 12 minute shower? LOL, we were at a #lakechelan trailer park. My wife's family rented a couple of trailers and the first morning everyone shared the code #communal #bathroom, they all ran with their towels to be in line. Meanwhile, I took a good shower in the trailer's bathroom. Then, naked and ready to go, one by one they learned that they needed to bring coins to feed a #coin box to turn the shower on for a limited amount of time. LOL...L..O.. freaking L!

Alternatives to #flushtoilets in times of diminishing #freshwater supplies around the globe are a prominent topic at the #Venice #biennalearchitettura2023 : While the #Finnish #pavilion shows a traditional #Huussi dry #toilet producing natural #fertilizer which will be used at a #communal #gardening project on one of the #Venezia'n islands after the exhibition, you can actually use a dry circular toilet (or a unisex #urinal) producing fertilizer at the #German pavilion.

I'd like to think that #automation would release people from unhappy, repetitive #work so that they can engage in what they want, and the social interactions could possibly be achieved through #communal establishments (eg. libraries). But we don't live in an utopia, and it's true that we tend to be, often unconsciously, not as aware on issues that we do not experience ourselves.

😂 yikes indeed!

The #AntifaAF doesn't really exist, but if it did it sould be in the open spirit of collaborating but not communing. The #Federated approach, instead of #communal or walled garden surveillance captitalism.

#art created for the express written purpose and intent of fighting #fascism. #MPNCA
