Lots of chitter chatter about a certain Megatooth Shark having an elongate body. By the oaths I have sworn, I shall mention #BernardHeuvelmans has already proposed an elongated #Megalodon ! The old #Cryptozoologist got a bit greedy in regards to size though — more than 120’ (36.6 m) is just obscene.

Text reading: “… from reconstructions of their terrible jaws, some specialists have calculated that Carcharodon megalodon must have been between 8o and 120 feet long. This figure is based on the relative size of the teeth of various related species, but in fact for mechanical reasons giant species are almost always proportionately longer than the normal, so the larger figure is most likely to be right. It may well even be too small.”

One is that there actually is not and never has been such a thing as a dinosaur, per se, the term being a more general one like "predaceous beasts" than, say "hoofed mammals". It means literally "terrible reptiles" and was initially coined to cover all reptiles discovered as fossils, and at one time it came to include even the larger extinct amphibians and related comparatively tiny creatures only two feet long.? There never was any group of animals officially, properly. and scientifically designated that of the Dinosauria, although later the term tended to be confined to members of three large groups of terrestrial reptiles that are thought to have become totally extinct some seventy-five million years ago. These are now known as the sub-orders Theropoda, Sauropoda, and Ornithopoda.
Lately. however, the term has once again swelled to include just about all extinct reptiles and the larger amphib-ians.

I’ve attached an excerpt from his Abominable Snowmen book (p. 203), which is available online:

“Then, in 1955, a professional American animal-collector brought back parts of a preserved specimen of a small kind of ape from the Gabun that is now lodged in the museum in Zurich, Switzerland. He also had photographs of the animal when alive, and it was certainly the oddest-looking creature; like a tiny orang-utam, with a high-domed forehead and quite unchimplike face, clothed in black hair, but having no thumbs! The collector insisted that the local natives know these animals well; that they are not chimps; and unlike chimps, they are completely arboreal, travel in parties of about 40, and never come to the ground. This specimen has been tentatively put down as an extremely abnormal baby chimp but it has a complete set of adult teeth!”

I'm listening to my favorite podcast, "And That's Why We Drink," and the paranormal story they are telling is about a cryptid. I watched a documentary about the Mothman the other day. Cryptids are coming up in my life a lot lately and it reminds me of how interesting it is to watch and read about cryptids and cryptozoology more so than ghosts or demons or anything.
