Ten white hunting dogs in a forest. This is taken from the "Livre de Chasse" (hunting book) of Gaston Phébus, count of Foix, France. They evolve in a lush environment of trees and bushes. The "sky" is actually made of tiny red, blue and golden squares.

The text reads "écoute avec ton esprit, plutôt qu'avec tes oreilles -- Confucius". It means "listen with your spirit rather than your ears". The text has a red "e" initial with a golden accent. It is framed in a golden square, on which two red dragons are intertwined.

Two men are hunting a beaver. One man, wearing a green and red tunic, is pointing at the beaver while looking at the other man. He is holding an axe. The other man, wearing an orange and blue tunic, holds a spear. The blue beaver on the bottom right seems to be tearing his testicles away, so the hunters can't kill the poor animal for its musk. They are figured as two orange dots behind the beaver.

HIMMELI II

In the frame of our project PRESERVED // Rågens rike / Finnland 204/25 we dealt with the traditional himmeli objects that are made of rye straw and are now used as a traditional Christmas decoration. In the former days they would be used to ask for a good harvest. In our winter chapter (November 2024) we asked the people of the area where our project is taking place (Vörå in Finland-Sweden) to join us to create a huge himmeli by using light tubes. The village came and in joint forces the ephermeral himmeli installation was created.

The whole project is carried out with the help of the village.

Our next stay will take place soon, stay tuned.

It's on A5 off-white textured watercolour paper. The purple 'offee' ink has a very slight gold shimmer to it.

Edit: Sold!

'But first, coffee',calligraphed in Carolingian script.

The 'but first' is in small black letters, the Coffee is in big purple letters but the first C is big and illuminated, painted brown and bronze with coffee plants with green leavesand red berries, and swirling vines in shimmering green ink.

Finally finished this commission for @slowwriter - yay! :D

Calligraphed in green ink, Blackletter script;

Behold the field in which I grow my fucks. Lay thine eyes upon it and see that it is barren.

The first 'B' is big, green and gold, and in its own blue box. The writing is framed in bordersof repeating pattenrs in blues, greens, reds, and gold, and there's a sketched illustration of a barren field with a fence, tree, and some birds, beneath the text.

I've just finished my design for Earby Medieval Mayhem (11th May, 2025)! The shield is the crest of Pendle district, with the white and red Yorkshire and Lancashire roses as Earby straddles the county boundary. Painted in Clip Studio Paint using a vellum background from my great-grandmother's diary (sic - long story).
I've had such fun designing this - I don't think it will be my last medieval illustration!

Good morning Fediverse, here is an older #illumination I painted back in 2017, on vellum. The background is gold leaves on a 3D undercoat called "gesso". It is taken from the Aberdeen Bestiary, and it depicts an asp viper and a man. See alt text for the story!

And, yes, now I use a ruler for the outer frame... LOL

Do you like it?

A man wearing a red tunic, blue pants, and a helmet is holding a large triangular shield and a stick. While he hits the ground with the stick, the blue winged, fire-breathing asp tries not to hear that mesmerising noise by blocking its ears with its tail and some grass. It has paws, and it's leaning on a weird medieval tree with "fruit" that looks like artichokes. The background of the image is ornate with gold leaves, and there's a wobbly red frame around the image because I didn't use a ruler!
