Vielleicht ist der neuseeländische (leider aussterbende) #Kakapo mein Spirit Animal: Fliegen kann er nicht, wird handlungsunfähig, sobald er angegriffen wird, und für die Balz stellt er sich meist zu blöd an. (was seinem Aussterben nicht grad entgebgenkommt.)
Meine #wandklex Kakapos sind heute im Original im #klexadventskalender!

Yesterday, we adopted the kākāpō Nora.

There are only 244 kākāpō alive today. Via a symbolic adoption, we can support the work of the kākāpō recovery program and help this critically endangered species.

Which kākāpō would you like to adopt?

I love kākāpō a normal amount, and a normal amount to love kākāpō is with all of my heart.

This is the lil guy I adopted last year! (Symbolically! He lives in an appropriate safe environment in his natural habitat!) I love him so much I painted him, and I loved the painting so much I made it a sticker! You can get said sticker from my shop if that floats your boat, and any support is immensely appreciated.

#Aotearoa #NewZealand's kākāpō developed different feather colors to evade predatory birds, genome sequencing shows phys.org/news/2024-09-zealand-

The genetic basis of the #kākāpō structural color polymorphism suggests balancing selection by an extinct apex predator: Lara Urban et al. journals.plos.org/plosbiology/

"olive coloration first appeared around 1.93 million years ago, coinciding with the evolution of two predatory #birds: Haast's eagle and Eyles' harrier."
