You know, we invented systems before there were computers.
'Forms' were on paper, rather than on screens.
An 'in tray' was an actual metal wire, or wooden tray, for paper letters, notes, memos and forms.
A database was called a 'filing cabinet'.
An 'interface' was a mail box.
A 'front end' was a person, with a job title like administrator, or clerk.
These systems were described, in excruciating detail, in procedure manuals.
The processes were run not by CPUs, but by people.
'Bugs' were when people made mistakes.

Systems were difficult to understand, even harder to diagnose, and very very hard to fix or change.
To change the way a department worked, for e.g. accounts receivable was so hard that most companies never even tried.

And yet somehow people are under the impression that it is the code that is the difficult bit about modern business systems.
So they try and make the code part easier.

@grzgrz za żadne skarby nie próbowałbym nawigować po #terminal bez fizycznej #klawiatura. Jeśli byłoby to jakieś bardziej przystosowane #srodowiskograficzne, to może bym spróbował, ale wtedy byłbym zdany na łaskę i funkcjonalność #interfejsgraficzny. Nic więc poza #programowanie #nocode na grafach jakiś szejderów po #remotedesktopprotocol, czy innego typu pajplajnów nie przychodzi mi go głowy. Może jakbym miał jakiś łatwy dostęp do #log ów, i wiedziałbym, że muszę tylko zmienić jedną linijkę w pliku, #konfiguracja tego była by jeszcze znośna.

#HighLevelProgramming has always been an important topic to me. The average human should be able to easily express what they want the computer to do without needing an app to be written. LLMs are not what I was hoping for, but they have been a step in that direction. When this AI wave plateaus and declines in 5-10 years, there will be the highest potential for the emergence of the ideal form of the intermediate between human thought and digital processing.

People selling the idea of #lowcode, #nocode, and #AI-generated applications as meaning you no longer need #SoftwareDevelopment, leave out the fact that figuring out what you want, describing that in a structured way that can be unambiguously understood via some intermediate tool or language that is to be specifically prompted or configured, and then, via feedback loops, iterating towards an application that fulfills what you want: that is still software development, done by software #developers
