#ThamesWater are going to use £1.5billion pounds out of the £3billion pounds that they have been recently allowed to receive to appeal against the #ofwat decision to limit the amount of money they can charge customers.
That is fucking outrageous!

Lid Dems standing up for the public again, Labour and the two Blue Teams are perfectly happy for the Rich to continue exploiting our water.
In December 2024, #ThamesWater was fined £18.2m for "unjustified" dividends, which, #ofwat, the regulator, said broke shareholder payment rules.
Over the five-year period between 2024/25 and 2029/30, the average water and sewerage bill was expected to increase by £157 (36%). However, you'll likely pay even more than this in reality because that forecast figure DOES NOT include more recent bill adjustments or inflation (which will be added on top).
Since creation as a private company, #thameswater has given £83 billion to its shareholders. It is now £19 billion in debt.
How has this been allowed to happen?
The uselessness of #Ofwat and the Environmental Agency that's how
NATIONALISE IT Today
. pay the shareholders off with gilts
It's only gonna get worse

If you're in the UK, please share your views on water mismanagement and pollution with Ofwat here:
Meanwhile at Thames Water, creditors are engaged in a civil war over the restructuring plans of the largest firms, which the 'junior' creditors see as both attempting to sidestep OFWATs (albeit weak) regulatory scope & likely to make it harder to raise further capital in the future.
What are the views of OFWAT?
yup you guessed it, their feigning disinterest, claiming its up to TW to come up with a plan... if this is what regulation looks like, no wonder we're in trouble!
I guess #transport and #water privatisation have taught us one thing in the UK. Some things should just be left public. #Ofwat
1,000s of Southern Water Customers are without water on the morning where #Offwat announces an average 36% increase in bills. Southern Water will be putting their bills up by 53%!!
The director of #Ofwat, that useless organisation, the one that asked the companies not to put up the bills by more than 21%, is on the TV saying the increased revenue will, "allow record levels of investment."
Chump
Water should be owned by us all, not privatived.
The UK #water regulator #Ofwat has called for bills to rise by 21% in real-terms to save water companies from financial collapse.
Screw that - they should be taken into public owenership:

#Ofwat is due to announce that it is giving in to #water firm #lobbying meaning bills could increase by as much as 84% by 2030!
I've written my (worthless) MP to attend a briefing next week on the state of the water sector
If you're worried about bills rising by up to 84% while our rivers and seas still face daily #sewage spills, send this template to your MP.
On 19th December, OFWAT, under pressure from water profiteers, is expected to announce its decision on whether to approve the largest water bill increase in the history of five year reviews - an average 40% hike, with some areas facing shocking rises of 84%
When they deliver on the infrastructure improvements THAT WE'VE ALREADY PAID FOR OVER THE LAST 30+ YEARS
Then we can discuss price rises
The answer will still be no, but we can discuss it

#ThamesWater hopes to secure £3billion from creditors to keep it going until 2026
In return, Thames water wants to charge customers 53% more over the next 5 years
But #ofwat are saying 23%
A decision will be made this December
I wonder who will win
One of the promises of privatisation is that the free market would bring improved efficiency.
This isn't remotely a free market. In a free market, companies who fail go bust and, if they provided something useful, get replaced by someone who does it better.
This is just legalised extortion.
It really is time to let the water companies go bust and nationalise them.
