Like, I know Walter Salles is a billionaire from a banking family. But this is proof that you can be a billionaire and make the decision to use your billions for something good.

Walter has been basically THE champion of Brazilian cinema, and he’s an incredible filmmaker. Two Brazilian movies made it to the Oscars - I’m Still Here and Central Station - and guess who made them.

I want more billionaires to invest their fortunes in creating art. We lack rich people as patrons of the arts, everyone just wants to be an investor in AI or meddle with the government. Support the arts! It’s a good thing!

If I had that crazy amount of money you bet I would be supporting ballet and cinema.

I’m Still Here (2024)

Ok, organized my thoughts a bit.

I’ve mentioned before I was born in Rio in the 70s, during the dictatorship.

So, the Paiva family - they’re famous. Marcelo became a famous author in the 90s, his book was all the rage. He also wrote the book that this movie is based upon.

This movie is about what they did to his parents. His father was disappeared one afternoon in 1971.

They disappeared people. We always heard about the people who went to talk to the police and never came back.

Eunice was a most remarkable woman and I’m so glad that the most important Brazilian film of all time is about her.

Please do yourself a big favour, especially if you are in North America, and watch this. Show it to everyone you know.

This is an important movie and it’s so incredibly well done.

Since the early days of film, there've been stunt designers and performers who make leaping through glass windows, flipping cars and escaping from burning buildings look realistic. Now, they have the chance to get an Oscar for it. Thanks to the campaigning of former stunt performer and "The Fall Guy" director David Leitch, the Academy Board of Governors approved a new category for stunt design, which will start in 2027. Here's more from @Variety. Tell us in the comments the most impressive or memorable movie or TV stunt you can think of.

Boiling Point: Not a great year for #climatechange at #Oscars
For second year, nonprofit firm Good Energy applied Climate Reality Check to #Oscar-nominated films. Intended as a #climate version of Bechdel test, which measures representation of women, Climate Reality Check tests whether movie & characters acknowledge #globalwarming
Climate silence “does feel a little striking after the harrowing year we’ve all had,” Good Energy Anna Jane Joyner said
