One of the coolest parts of the housing system in Ultima Online is the ability to make your home totally unique and even a community space. Vendor houses and shopping malls, auction houses, taverns, libraries, travel lodges ("rune library"), and so many other creative things.

Imagine a game like the Sims meets Warcraft. Don't like your neighbor? You can literally kill them, chop off their head, and put it on display in your home. Yeah, that got morbid, quick... but UO was a game where everything felt possible.

Today's #witcher RPG session went in a direction I hadn't expected when we started this story, with our witcher and doctor standing at the front of a church with the village reeve, trying to persuade a crowd of nervous villagers that they should make peace with the troll who lives up in the mountains above their grazing fields.

It really made a nice change from "I hit it with my axe"

I picked up a copy of "Blades in the Dark" this week, and have been looking through it.

Liking what I'm seeing so far, and I have to say the internet folks who said "Candela Obscura is a cut-down version of Blades in the Dark" were on to something, there's a very strong resemblance.

At least that means the mechanics are going to be really familiar...

Fate RPG character generation can be a lot of fun, but other times it can feel like handcuffs. It doesn't allow for "but I just met you guys" for one.

Char gen: write a v. short story of your first adventure. Hand your story to the person on your right, that person writes themselves in as a minor character. Hand it to the right again, and write in yourself as a minor character again.

Everyone's backgrounds are interwoven, and sometimes that's just not the setup you want.
