How menny people thare iz whoze importance depends entirely upon the size ov their hotel bills.

The #House narrowly adopted the #Republican #budget blueprint for slashing taxes for the very #wealthy & #corporations & government #spending, overcoming the concerns of budget hard-liners who fear it will balloon the nation’s #debt. The vote was a victory for Speaker #MikeJohnson, who put down a rebellion from deficit hawks, & #Trump, who had stepped up pressure on reluctant #Republicans.

The #House to vote on the #Senate #budget resolution

#Republicans scheduled a vote for Wednesday evening, but they were still at least a dozen votes short of a majority for their fiscal blueprint.

A number of anti-#spending #HouseRepublicans said they planned to defy #Trump & oppose the measure, arguing it would add too much to the nation’s #debt.

Questions and an idea for my #USAnian friends...

Your ~~feral~~ federal government is currently being commandeered by an executive that believes that it can rewrite the U.S. constitution via executive orders. One of the primary techniques they are using is usurping the congress's "power of the purse", by either refusing to spend congressionally-allocated funds, or by spending those funds on things other than congress allocated them for.

If the executive branch thinks it's fine to ignore your constitution and screw taxpayers with tax dollars, then...

1) Most of the feds' tax income comes from income tax and various #employment taxes.

2) Employers collect these taxes and remit them to the government.

3) Q: exactly *who* do they remit them to? Based on history, I would think this would be a state agency, who would keep the state/municipal portion and remit the rest to the federal government. Is this correct?

4) "Blue" states are, in general, net payers of tax dollars vs. federal services received.

5) "Red" states are, in general, the opposite - they receive more in federal services / support than they remit in taxes.

So, depending on the answer to (3), my #idea is: why don't blue states stop remitting funds to the federal #government? Don't steal it, just hold it in trust until the feds can be made to follow the law correctly.

I would think this would hurt the feds, a *lot*.

Younger Americans don't have enough saved to cover a single month of spending, showcasing their vulnerability should the economy head into a downturn. Members of #GenZ spending twice the amount they had in savings on average in February. The ratio has increased in the past 2 yrs, and is much higher than for other generations...they tend to spend a bigger share of their incomes on necessities including #rent and #utilities. fortune.com/2025/03/14/gen-z-a #economy #economics #stockmarket #spending

Oh, Canada! 🍁🇨🇦 The Great White North is considering ditching the F-35s because apparently, even snow melts faster than the US decision-making process on jets. ✈️ Meanwhile, #Portugal is also in on the action, proving that when it comes to #military #spending, two can play at indecision. 🤷‍♂️
