Bob’s Radio Corner: Pairing a Phone or Tablet with a Radio

Utah Hockey Club, 1280 AM on Northern Utah WebSDR Yellow. #KZNS Salt Lake City monitored from 80 miles north in Corrine, UT.
The KZNS 1280 web call is blacked out (because reasons? money? there's a way to pay for listening to hockey on the radio?)
Tied with the Maple Leafs with 5 minutes left in the 3d period.
KZNS is 50 kilowatts during the day, but only 670 watts at night. I hear another station underneath the hockey broadcast but the announcers win the contest.
TIL: The wide-band #WebSDR of the University of Twente provides waterfall diagrams for the whole day, plotting the station's full spectrum (0–29 MHz).
It's beautiful.
I learned about this part of the #radiospectrum called the #waterhole around 1400 MHz that could serve as an #interstellar communications band. I was sooo excited that I took a photo of the frequency from the movie and tried to find a #websdr with coverage in the band.

Quick check of Twente #WebSDR for comparison purposes shows weak signals on 6865 USB, 6900 USB, 6931 AM (Indy ), and 6960 barely in the noise.
So-called Stalingrad Ticking Clock (a naZi PsyOps targeting Ukrainian army?) on 6911 USB and FSK bursts on 6968 USB are also there.
As is an intermittent wideband noise centred on 6890...
All just so much better here in NE Poland with that unfinished BOG #shortwave #pirate #Halloween
OK We're kicking off a virtual club for our learners and alumni in the @thenrao #HamRadio project. And I'm looking for speakers on the following subjects:
+ #Amateurradio over the Internet (ARoIP)
+ #MorseCode #CW for fun
+ #Echolink.org deep dive: review of all the features
+ What is #meshtastic and how do I get started?
+ #WebSDR treasure/egg hunt
+ Build #crystalradios from junk
Interested? DM me.
Listening in to some #shortwave #pirateradio tonight via #websdr in Utah. I'm certain I've lodged this complaint before, but I'm struck struck by how pirates play so much of the same worn out classic rock and standards. I mean, you go through all the effort, taking a small measure of risk of getting caught broadcasting w/o a license, and you'd think you'd want to take more creative liberties with the format.
A3. Have never transmitted on 630m (472–479 kHz) or 2200m (136 kHz).
The closest I've gotten is listening to NDB stations in the US on #KiwiSDR systems - one near me, "Pembleton Farms KiwiSDR", has a 230 meter Beverage antenna. I've also listened to #longwave broadcast stations in Europe especially BBC Radio 4 on 198 kHz through the U Twente #WebSDR .
Currently listening to R. New Zealand Int in English on 7440kHz at 1450UTC on Thursday, August 10th, 2023 ~ via WebSDR out of California. ~ http://websdr1.kfsdr.com:8901/ ~ #KE0FFTswl #KE0FFTwebSDR #WebSDR #ShortwaveListening
@kf7ccc Thanks! I was able to find this page on Mac audio issues https://www.sdrutah.org/info/chromefix.html from the Northern Utah #WebSDR - not the same of course, but different, but still web-based audio. A few things to try if it happens again or more widely on #KiwiSDR systems.
Mon nouveau passe-temps, écoutez des fréquences radios :)
Ce soir j'enregistre le son d'un satellite NOAA-18 pour tenter d'afficher l'image qu'il a transmise... :D
@N0ZB you need to check out this #WebSDR #OnlineSDR #SDRradio website then - a whole slew of receivers with worldwide locations and freq ranges / reception modes to play with. ~ http://websdr.org/
@textfiles It might be a good idea to use the #WebSDR tag. Not sure if I like your idea tho. You you know if the NSA is doing this?
France/Morocco, where can I listen to it on shortwave? cc @arnie_dxer (happy to tune through #WebSDR / #KiwiSDR if needed)

I think there must be a radio-focused Mastodon somewhere.
