@Newmy it's catch22. People will join when it's mainstream. But it will only be mainstream when people join it. I fear that quite a few of the more vocal industry professionals that i follow already gave up on mastodon after 2 months and went back to their bonfire of leased furniture

@Newmy this is true here too, since 99.9% of users are joining an instance run by someone else. And even if you do have the technical savvy to get your own instance up and running on your old Mac mini (or w/e) there are three or four big admins that if they defederate you you’re going to be in a ghost town. Nostr could be a solution but lmao let’s get real here

@Grimulon If the bar is 100% control, sure. But being able to pack up and move instances goes a long way (as does not being subject to the whims of billionaire internet boy-kings).

@Newmy Unfortunately, this is the only way to do it. I mean, how could we have social media that wasn't owned by some billionaire?
