wordsmith‽ ⁂

I was really excited for the in 2024 and I think that feeling has borne out. Projects have released or started in earnest but so did the influenze of facebook, a long-term genocide and queer violence supporter who have this week changed their terms to expressly permit queerphobic and other vicious harms.

I think that 2025 will be the year I continue to be excited about the application of ActivityPub (the technology that powers the fedi), but if the people and groups who steer it refuse to accept that facebook is an enemy of humanity, that they must not be negotiated with under any circumstances, then perhaps this year is the one that I leave the Fedi and simply go back to living without any form of social media.

I think that the specification itself, and software that implements it, must be agnostic of who uses it and why. I think gab should be able to use a Mastodon fork. I think threads.net should be able to federate. I despise them both.

However, people write specifications and software and if they are corrupted by hateful actors who knowingly make algorithms that cause murder, then the specification will contribute to harm. I don't want to be tainted by it and be one of many whose use supports it.
