Book number 3 for the year is finished! I always worry about book series. I don't always like whole series. I usually like the first book and the rest of the series is a letdown. That is not the case for the Belladonna series. Foxglove ended up being a five star read because it made me cry and had the level of spice (a little but not too detailed) I prefer. I definitely recommend this series!

"Gypsy" is a song by British-American #rock band #FleetwoodMac. The song was written by #StevieNicks around 1979; the earliest demo recordings were made in early 1980 with #TomMoncrieff for possible inclusion on her debut solo album #BellaDonna. When Nicks' close friend Robin Anderson died of #leukemia, the song took on a new significance and Nicks dedicated the song to her in future performances. "#Gypsy" was the second single release.

"Leather and Lace" is a song performed by American singers #StevieNicks and #DonHenley. It was released on October 6, 1981, as the second #single from Nicks' solo debut studio album #BellaDonna (1981). Nicks and Henley were romantically involved from 1977 until 1978. Nicks originally wrote the song for #WaylonJennings and #JessiColter's duet album #LeatherAndLace, but the song was not included. Jennings still intended to use the song for his solo work.

Ok y’all, apparently the right wing is freaking the hell out about a TikTok trend of Make Aqua Tofana Great Again," or #MATGA. Now, this is some funny shit right’chere, I tell you what.

Some history: Also known as “Manna di San Nicola", the poison which was formulated with #lead, #arsenic and #belladonna, and developed by Madame #Tofana was sold openly, and is rumored to be the cause of over 600 murdered husbands. It is odorless, flavorless and very deadly. Also, nobody knows the exact formula anymore.

Modern context, #MAGA are posting “your body, my choice” memes, and women are responding by stitching in themselves pouring a vial of clear liquid into a glass and saying MATGA.

Naturally, the right wing immediately demanded the fbi hunt these women down as terrorists. Because maga are #bullies, and like all bullies, crumble when faced with even the slightest hint that they may face repercussions.

I met the steward of a physic garden. We ended in Poisons. Woody Nightshade, crawling up trees; moody Hellebores, Spurge, Box. Her favourite, the Mandrake, had blight. She talked about nursing it & its folklore: a soul in a human-shaped root, screaming if pulled up. A strange moment, the cool walls bound in vines & locks. The sun eddied into shadow, & waves of people broke softly in the distance.

Deadly Nightshade (Atropa belladonna) sprouting back from the roots.

"Belladonna has several fundamental qualities for witchcraft: unpredictability, ambiguity, tricksiness, and as an indicator of the Crooked Path. These qualities can be funneled into the concept of malice, an essential characteristic of Belladonna Spirit." - Harold Roth, "The Witching Herbs"

@AbandonedAmerica Ask it about Asthmador.

The bad but easy info, on a Smithsonian WWW site no less, is people saying how "great" it was.

The good info that the FTC banned it in 1937 from being marketed as a cure, because it contained a hallucinogen (#DaturaStramonium) cut with a poison (#Belladonna) and the people who took it were actually addicts hallucinating that they were better, some even dying of the poison, is only available in books and behind subscription paywalls.

📖 Leyendo #Belladonna

#OTD William Herbert, British #Botanist & #Clergyman, is born.

William confused #Gardener-s after he split the Amaryllis genera into #Amaryllis & #Hippeastrum.

There's only one species in the original Amaryllisllis genus - the #Belladonna.

The Hippeastrum genera has 90 species, including the big #Bulbs we pot up in the #Winter & refer to as Amaryllis. But really, they are Hippeastrum - a name that doesn't roll off the tongue & has never caught on.
