Measles is one of <em>the</em> most contagious infectious diseases on the planet.</p><p>"And the <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/measles" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>measles</span></a> virus is uniquely diabolical as it can destroy our immune system’s cells, causing “immune amnesia.” It is all entirely preventable with immunization."</p>
Charlie McHenry<p>Measles by itself is not highly lethal, but the danger it poses is serious for three reasons.</p><p>First, it is the most contagious disease known to humankind. The Spanish Flu had an infection rate of 1.5-2. Measles has an infection rate of 12-18.</p><p>Second, Measles can hide in the body for years, cross the blood-brain barrier, and cause death long after you forgot about it.</p><p>Third, the extreme danger of measles is what it does to your immune system. Throughout your life, as your body contracts and fights off diseases, it keeps a record of how to fight those diseases. Measles comes in and burns 20-70% of those records, so that the next time you catch a sniffle it might turn into a life-threatening lung infection. —summation of the linked podcast by u/animorphsgeek <a href="https://connectop.us/tags/Measles" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Measles</span></a> <a href="https://connectop.us/tags/MeaslesOutbreak" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MeaslesOutbreak</span></a> <a href="https://connectop.us/tags/Epidemiology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Epidemiology</span></a> <a href="https://connectop.us/tags/PublicHealth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PublicHealth</span></a> <a href="https://connectop.us/tags/HHS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HHS</span></a> <a href="https://connectop.us/tags/RFKjr" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RFKjr</span></a> <a href="https://connectop.us/tags/epidemic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>epidemic</span></a> <a href="https://connectop.us/tags/Childhood" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Childhood</span></a></p><p><a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vT06iyulNVNk3qIQ87w2JYnkKT-H5-UdJ26WkVXFIe4Y_OgFFq9QIbe0RBPutEFZIuHbg9vIyuuoBSL/pub" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">docs.google.com/document/d/e/2</span><span class="invisible">PACX-1vT06iyulNVNk3qIQ87w2JYnkKT-H5-UdJ26WkVXFIe4Y_OgFFq9QIbe0RBPutEFZIuHbg9vIyuuoBSL/pub</span></a></p>

MikeDunnAuthor<p>My Body, My Choice?</p><p>Well, yes, of course, but consider this: without a 5% increase in measles vaccine uptake, measles could once again become endemic in the U.S., while a 10% decline in vaccination rates could result in over 11 million measles cases and over 150,000 deaths per year.</p><p>And this is not just among the knuckleheads who choose not to vaccinate themselves and their children. Low vaccination rates eliminate the herd immunity that protects vulnerable people with impaired immunity like seniors, people with immunological illnesses, people with cancer, and all infants under the age of 12 months, as well as the 3% of healthy vaccinated individuals that the vaccine fails to protect. </p><p><a href="https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/measles/precipice-disaster-measles-may-be-endemic-25-years-if-vaccine-uptake-stays-low-model" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">cidrap.umn.edu/measles/precipi</span><span class="invisible">ce-disaster-measles-may-be-endemic-25-years-if-vaccine-uptake-stays-low-model</span></a></p><p><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/measles" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>measles</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/vaccination" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vaccination</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/antivax" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>antivax</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/rfkjr" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rfkjr</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/publichealth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>publichealth</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/ableism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ableism</span></a></p>
