For convenience I've made a quick page for buying some of my #SAMCoupe items with UK shipping included in the price. I'll get more added shortly, but just now there's the recent issues of SAM Revival magazine, pre-order the next issue (27, with The Lower Caverns on disk) and my gold plated SAM PCB keyrings, which help add a few pounds to the development kitty of my SAM projects.

And here I go computer-sciencey again:

The Composition-Oriented ual Way

Part 1: Foundations - Container-Centric Thinking

ual is a programming language that places containers, not values, at the center of its design. Part 1 explores container-centric thinking and how focusing on where values live rather than what they are creates interesting new approaches to code organization and algorithm design.

Part 1 of 6, the rest of the series is here:

Happy Pi day!

Here's my collection of RaspberryPis from over the years.

1x RaspberryPi Model B
3x RaspberryPi 3 Model B
4x RaspberryPi Zero W
2x RaspberryPi 5

I use almost all regularly, the 8Gib Pi 5 runs this gotosocial instance and most of others do various retro Macintosh things (TashTalk, RGB2HDMI, USB4VC, BlueSCSI).

I even use the original Model B sometimes with my Sony 9in CRT since it has an RCA composite video out and binaries to decode in hardware, something newer Pis lack due to licensing things.

Accidentally left the ImageWriter on overnight and suddenly it wasn't showing up on the network anymore. Left it off and unplugged for a few hours, and everything is fine again.

I seem to remember that something similar happened after I'd been using the ThunderScan for a little while too.

Anybody else ever have things like that happen with theirs too? 🖨️

33 years ago this week, Commodore introduced the worst Amiga. I'll still take the worst Amiga over a lot of things. But in March 1992, nobody was asking for the Amiga 600. The Amiga 1200 was what they wanted, and Commodore didn't make enough of those. #retrocomputing dfarq.homeip.net/amiga-600-the

The Silicon Underground · Amiga 600: The Amiga no one wantedMaybe putting the designer of the IBM PCjr in charge of this wasn't the best idea

I'm not entirely surprised—I’ve noticed that old digital watches tend to run faster over time. I have a few vintage models from the '70s and '80s that have noticeably picked up speed with age. I always assumed this was due to the natural aging of quartz crystal oscillators, but perhaps there’s more to it than that. Could there be another factor at play?

I originally thought that it was just a hardware thing - solder on another chip, job done. After all, the pads were on the board, so why wouldn't #Psion have made #EPOC16 work with 4MB RAM?

But maybe a 4MB 3mx just wasn't a priority for Psion any more. #EPOC32 and the Series 5 were in full swing by the time the 3mx was released. The two Psions were drifting apart, too - Psion's hardware business ended up refocusing on Windows CE machines.

Psion had the ramdrive working with 2MB machines since the 3a2. The code probably hadn't been touched in ages, and it might have been too much hassle to update for the returns they thought they might get.

This is all speculation, of course. But it would make sense.
