FitheachChanged my mind. I decided to install Sailfish on the Sony Xperia 10 III.It was plain sailing. 😃 I guess, things only become difficult when things go wrong, and things went very smoothly. In brief, I unlocked the bootloader, and downloaded Android 12 from Sony. I flashed that to the Xperia (11 wasn't available). I performed all the usual 'phone stuff, which worked. FitheachA new epic adventure is about to begin. My quest is to have a privacy-respecting, and functional, mobile 'phone that can also make calls using VoLTE and WiFi calling. My travelling companion will be Sailfish OS. I'm not expecting it to be an easy journey.My first step was getting a compatible 'phone. Here it is, my Sony Xperia 10 III. The Xperia is currently running Android 13. Seems to work and now microG also. However the <a href="https://attractive.space/tags/Jeep" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Jeep</a> app still doesn’t log in. It doesn’t crash anymore but then just states login error after giving credentials. The network is a bit iffy so will need to investigate further. Also <a href="https://attractive.space/tags/AuroraStore" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#AuroraStore</a> got an update but after hitting update it closes down on start. Actual native things so far work, but I haven’t yet done broader testing. Still a nice environment.

Personally, I wish it were available in Southeast Asia.Even on a PinePhone, missing port functionality and meager hardware, it is evidently a very good OS. Kristoffer LawsonTo continue on the theme of car use with phones, I’d really be tempted to move away from dependency on American phone platforms, in the current climate. But lack of <a href="https://attractive.space/tags/Carplay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Carplay</a> would be a massive drawback I might not easily be OK with (this is why we need open standards). But also lack of Jeep app, EV charging apps (until we get ubiquitous acceptance of payment cards).

I really need to spend more time investigating, but it's a rabbit hole I really don't have time for right now.

And at much better prices. The only downside is the software. I tried several times with it, but I just utterly cannot get along with Google. You get the feeling they never seem to properly care about design. Not in their culture (you can see it everywhere with them). I love the <a href="https://attractive.space/tags/Sailfish" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Sailfish</a> design but sadly I feel a cultural shift needs to happen there too for commercialisation.
