Kazinator[1/3]I've heard the opinion a number of times that <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/SmoothJazz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SmoothJazz</a> is not a genre of <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Music</a> but a channel/stream/station programming format.I have a different <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Opinion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Opinion</a> : the music has readily identifiable features. If we were to describe it as R&B/Soul type pop where the vocals are replaced by an instrument like <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Sax" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Sax</a> or <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Guitar" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Guitar</a>, we are not far off.The genre typically uses simple, rock/pop beats in 4/4 time, unlike <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Jazz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Jazz</a>. The chord progressions are mostly simple, or use formulaic alterations.
