Stu 🇵🇸It's that time of year where we're on 'owl watch'. Baby owls try to fledge their nest in the loft above the gîte and can only glide down. Their flight feathers aren't properly formed yet. So they do what's called 'hedging'. Usually, they'd stick around, hiding in corners, being fed by their parents until they learn to fly, or they die.We keep a look out, and tell all our guests to do the same. Two days ago, gîte guests alerted us to a baby huddled by the door of their gîte. We put him/her back in the loft. Today, one of our campers told us that one was sat at the top of the stairs to the first floor gîte. This time, a different bird, smaller and fluffier. The Birdman of AlrewasThis little beauty is a Four-spotted Chaser (Libellula quadrimaculata). We had not cut the grass in the garden at all this year to allow it to be a bit wild. The benefit has been the huge number of different insects.
