Gary Parker<p>Just finished reading <span class="h-card"><a href="https://wandering.shop/@marthawells" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>marthawells</span></a></span>’s seventh <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/murderbot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>murderbot</span></a> book, <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/systemCollapse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>systemCollapse</span></a> and, well, it was…affecting</p><p>Trying not to be too spoilery, the central character has been on a journey of emotional awakening throughout the series, and it takes a dark and somewhat upsetting turn in this new one, a direct sequel to the fifth novel. </p><p>Thoroughly enjoyable, if unsettling, stuff</p>
Jules<p>But it's action interspersed with astute commentary on things like the pitfalls of dealing with someone who doesn't act in good faith in politics or how to know your own wants, preferences, likes and dislikes if you've been enslaved until recently. Jules<p>... and SecUnit aka Murderbot in charge of security. Only now, corporate representatives also show up, as does a separatist hidden colonist faction. The whole series manages to start excellent from story to story; maintaining a unique voice and style while developing its characters plausibly and significantly.
