🇬🇧 I'm back after taking a short break from #VGMWednesday, and since I've recently finished #HomeworldDesertsOfKharak - a game with an absolutely AWESOME #soundtrack - I thought I'd share some of my favorite music from it.
I'm starting with "Battle at The Boneyard", a track you hear near the beginning of the game. It plays when you first meet the main adversaries of the game - the Gaalsien - and the music just perfectly sets the mood for a tense desert battle.

So, it's #VGMWednesday already? Jeez, time flies.
Today, we're taking a magical trip on games I played this week this time to Tokyo Disneyland. In fact, we are having a Grand Adventure.

Mickey's Grand Adventure in Tokyo Disneyland is a curious game, but right now, let's focus on my favourite track.

Big Thunder Mountain.

For me, this track just works for this ride. I can't put my finger on it. But for me, it does evoke that vibe of a Steam Train going around the American Southwest. It's a fun, light track that will hopefully help you forget the game can be downright malicious at times.

Other honourable mentions, The Haunted Manor and Cinderella's Castle, are also pretty decent. Though the latter might be just a Stockholm syndrome response...

🇬🇧 My last entry for my #VGMWednesday creepy month is yet another #FireEmblem #soundtrack, and the theme of one of the most iconic villains of the series: the Black Knight.
Many people may know the Black Knight's battle theme from SSB, but this is the theme for whenever he makes his appearance on screen - which, in most cases, means certain death. Fittingly for such a menacing foe, his theme absolutely grips you to the marrow with fear.

🇬🇧 My #VGMWednesday entry for this week is tied directly to the previous one: While I shared the Loptous theme from FE4 last time, #FireEmblem: Thracia 776 (aka FE5, the stand-alone side story to FE4) has perhaps my favorite variant of it.
If you listen closely, you will notice it's a remix of the Loptous #soundtrack, with a bit of Julius' theme from FE4 blended in - and together, these two tracks make for a spine-chilling crescendo.

Another Wednesday, another viddy game soundtrack to share!

Unravel is a platformer puzzle game where you lead an animated bundle of yarn named … Yarny (very creative name, I know) through beautiful landscapes inspired by the countryside in Sweden.

The game itself is cute and charming, but its soundtrack is definitely the highlight for me, possibly being one of my favourite soundtracks. It feels warm, cosy, and nostalgic to listen to, and never fails to relax me when I'm feeling down!

The track 『Summer Sky』, I think, is a good encapuslation of the game's soundtrack as a whole.

🇬🇧 As my second entry for my #VGMWednesday creepy month, I want to share the #soundtrack of perhaps the scariest villains in all of #FireEmblem: the Loptous Sect from FE: Genealogy of the Holy War.
FE has had its fair share of evil wizards, but none of them give me the creeps quite the same way as the Loptous Cult does. Fittingly, they also have a truly ominous, menacing-sounding theme that perfectly sets the mood for their twisted schemes.

In today's episode of "Things I have been playing this week for #VGMWednesday ," we have a different rodent centric game. Don't worry, you're in safe hands, away from the House of Mouse.

Though, we are in the hanging out with Sonic Team, which is also pretty dubious....

The game in question is none other than ChuChu Rocket! Now, I am cheating this week, again... Boo, hiss!
I've been plugging away at the 2,500 single player on the GBA version, but I didn't want to subject you to the crunchy GBA audio. So let's just jam to the funky fresh beats of the #Dreamcast

This is the 『Single Player Theme』the music that plays during a single-player puzzle stage, and all things considered, it is pretty chill and easy going whilst you are trying to rescue mice from pitfalls and giant orange cats! Considering you might be spending a long time on some puzzles, it is good that the music makes for super easy listening!

So. Recently I got into viewing speedruns of the "Legendary Kusogé", Hoshi wo Miru Hito. It's... very bad. But there are interesting parts! One is the music. Whoever worked the music definitely could compose and experimented some, but given the reputation of the game, no one has taken credit for it.

Here's a great cover:

For this week's piece, it's obviously a tribute to the work of Stéphane Picq, and of course it's a track from Cryo's Dune soundtrack, which was one of the biggest video-game slams of my childhood.

I had the CD-ROM version, and I still remember the big box with its incredible design, with its full-size manual that could be read horizontally, and this game with its crazy visuals and music, one of the first I played with 3D CGI animations.

Chibi-Robo may have been the start of my love of media with a blend of really funny, sometimes slapstick comedy and heartwarming earnestness that I would later go on to find in the works of Hideo Kojima and RGG Studio.
Characters in Chibi-Robo are wacky and find themselves in off-the-wall situations, but dramatic scenes are played straight with very little irony or tongue-in-cheek. It catches you off guard and enhances the emotion.

#EchoesOfWisdom had a high music bar to clear. Both BotW and TotK have massive scores that build into layered masterpieces over 100 hours. Despite being viewed as the the union of traditional top-down Zelda with the emergent gameplay of BotW/TotK, EoW cuts a music path of it's own.

The use of small scale ensembles lends a whimsy and personable feeling to the game, but it's the heavy use of woodwinds that really define it. There's no blarring trumpet or bombast that the series is known for.

For #VGMWednesday here is the "Hyrule Ranch" theme. This one surprised me the most. I expected to hear that ranch melody from OoT again because it lends so well to winds. While there are allusions to it, this theme makes something new rather than replaying a greatest hit.

That's what EoW does best with it's music; it feels familiar while not actually re-treading the same tired melodies and styles. It's a great accompaniment to a game trying to do the same.
