orangehatterHow do we protect a child’s innocence in a world that celebrates rebellion and dismisses goodness—without shielding them from reality?

A grandmother recently told me her biggest fear: "I want to protect my granddaughter's innocence as long as I can."

She wasn’t talking about sheltering her. She knows the world is changing fast. Even in second grade, her granddaughter has already been exposed to conversations about drinking, drugs, and other risky behaviors.

We can’t control everything our kids are exposed to. But we can prepare them. We can guide their attention to what is good, strong, and meaningful. If we don’t, the world will—and it doesn’t always have their best interests at heart.

I’ve seen firsthand that kids who know their worth don’t need to be shielded from the world—they instinctively rise above it. Yappari
Americans are now spending more time alone than ever, @DKThomp writes. It’s changing our personalities, our politics, and even our relationship to reality.

“if two of the 20th century’s iconic technologies, the automobile and the television, initiated the rise of American aloneness, the 21st century’s most notorious piece of hardware has continued to fuel, and has indeed accelerated, our national anti-social streak. Countless books, articles, and cable-news segments have warned Americans that smartphones can negatively affect mental health and may be especially harmful to adolescents. But the fretful coverage is, if anything, restrained given how greatly these devices have changed our conscious experience.”

https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2025/02/american-loneliness-personality-politics/681091/?gift=oca7ztDUcOY1799kH9SL4Oxh1f0rFPbdcs_z3fFCBRA

#GiftArticle #GiftLink #psychology #ChildDevelopment #sociology
