Pat<p>Figured out how to use yt-dlp with MPlayer, if for some reason you want such a thing</p><p>I am always curious when a program is able to do something that seems impossible (like extracting Youtube videos from a URL). I.e., MPV somehow uses yt-dlp flawlessly</p><p>Next semi-unrelated step, I might try to move my Youtube subscriptions from Newsboat over to Newsticker (Emacs)</p><p><a href="http://patpatpat.xyz/data/youtube-mplayer" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">http://</span><span class="ellipsis">patpatpat.xyz/data/youtube-mpl</span><span class="invisible">ayer</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/mplayer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mplayer</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/mpv" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mpv</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/youtube" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>youtube</span></a></p>
Fabio Manganiello<p>It looks like streaming <a class="hashtag" href="https://manganiello.social/tag/youtube" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#YouTube</a> videos in <a class="hashtag" href="https://manganiello.social/tag/platypush" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Platypush</a> is currently broken because of new checks put in place by <a class="hashtag" href="https://manganiello.social/tag/google" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Google</a>.</p><p><a class="hashtag" href="https://manganiello.social/tag/mpv" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#mpv</a> with <code>--ytdl</code> is also affected, and so are static downloads through the yt-dlp command of course.</p><p>It seems that providing an API token to the yt-dlp configuration may mitigate the issue, but of course you lose anonimity.</p><p>I’ll test things with an auth token and document the new process this week.</p><p><a href="https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/issues/10128" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/issues/10128</a></p>
