neddyo<p>Tonight: a special night at the legendary Carnegie Hall with the voice to end all voices Cecile McLorin Salvant. Man, she is just something else! Tonight backed by her normal trio, the orchestra The Knights, plus special guest for a few songs, Chris Thile. Many chills moments. A cool night in NYC.</p><p><a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nycfreaks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nycfreaks</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/livemusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>livemusic</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nyc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nyc</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/carnegiehall" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>carnegiehall</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/cecilemclorinsalvant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cecilemclorinsalvant</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/jazz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jazz</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/christhile" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>christhile</span></a></p>
neddyo<p>Tonight: friend brought me to see Logan Ledger and I'm glad he did. Wasn't on my radar preciously, but a gem of country folk with a nice old school sound and a voice that was born to sing it. A rare ticketed show at Skinny Dennis, rightfully packed on a Tuesday night.</p><p><a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nycfreaks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nycfreaks</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/livemusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>livemusic</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/brooklyn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>brooklyn</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/williamsburg" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>williamsburg</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/skinnydennis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>skinnydennis</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/loganledger" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>loganledger</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/country" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>country</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/folk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>folk</span></a></p>
neddyo<p>This afternoon: good times in Williamsburg, tasty BEC at Edith’s, then music in the front room at Union Pool with Small Chucks (with some quite touching lyrics) and then over to Skinny Dennis for Alan Lee's monthly hit, always a good time.</p><p><a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nycfreaks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nycfreaks</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/livemusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>livemusic</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/brooklyn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>brooklyn</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/williamsburg" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>williamsburg</span></a></p>
neddyo<p>Tonight: fulfilling my goal of getting to Close Up as often as possible and not yet regretting it one bit. This time with guitarist/vocalist Dida Pelled with Will Gorman, Spencer Murphy, and the legendary Kenny Wolleson.</p><p><a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nycfreaks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nycfreaks</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/livemusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>livemusic</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nyc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nyc</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/jazz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jazz</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/closeup" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>closeup</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/didapelled" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>didapelled</span></a></p>
neddyo<p>I'm emotionally swinging between total uncertainty at work, anger and despair at {everything}, and complete distracted joy from livemusic. Not sure it's sustainable, but TGIF, I guess?</p><p>Happyplace'd at Barbès for now at least...</p><p><a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nycfreaks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nycfreaks</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/livemusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>livemusic</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/brooklyn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>brooklyn</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/parkslope" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>parkslope</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/barbes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>barbes</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/jazz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jazz</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/oscarnoriega" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>oscarnoriega</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/resideNYC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>resideNYC</span></a></p>
neddyo<p>Tonight: not sure there's a funkier thing going these days than Daniel Villarreal. Also not sure how he's not packing every room he plays when he comes to town, but that's why I'm not in the biz. But it's more than just funk and I'm more than happy to have more space. This time his band crushing it at the quadrophonic Public Records, just a short walk from home, lucky me. Sizzling Wednesday night. These guys are just so so good. </p><p><a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nycfreaks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nycfreaks</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/livemusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>livemusic</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/brooklyn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>brooklyn</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/danielvillarreal" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>danielvillarreal</span></a></p>
neddyo<p>Putting together a very strong lineup for the upcoming Freaks Day Out run, got some great acts lined up to play in our little Brooklyn hideaway, aka the FDO Amphitheater. </p><p>Outdoor music season will soon be here!! If you're in the NYC area, I hope you'll come out to one or some or all.</p><p>First one will be 3/30 with Tasca, a fab organ trio.</p><p><a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nycfreaks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nycfreaks</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/livemusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>livemusic</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/freaksdayout" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>freaksdayout</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/brooklyn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>brooklyn</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/redhook" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>redhook</span></a></p>
neddyo<p>Tonight: wouldn't miss a Tim Berne Tuesday at Lowlands if I didn't have to. Always a treat to see a band same-but-different a regular gig. Tonight seemed to be especially guitar heavy with lots of shreddy-style solos from Gregg Belisle-Chi, and of course Rainey was sublime.</p><p><a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nycfreaks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nycfreaks</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/livemusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>livemusic</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/brooklyn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>brooklyn</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/gowanus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gowanus</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/jazz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jazz</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/timberne" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>timberne</span></a></p>
neddyo<p>Happy Friday from the happy hour gang at Barbes, may the weekend be restful and next week less horrifying.</p><p><a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nycfreaks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nycfreaks</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/livemusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>livemusic</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/brooklyn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>brooklyn</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/parkslope" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>parkslope</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/barbes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>barbes</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/jazz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jazz</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/oscarnoriega" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>oscarnoriega</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/resideNYC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>resideNYC</span></a></p>
neddyo<p>Tonight: Close Up is where the youngs play jazz and also where the youngs go to see jazz. Pleasant set from Jeong Lim Yang playing with Jon Elbaz on piano and Jon Starks on drums. Pretty straightforward except when it wasn't. Some surrealist moments. Such a great spot, though, gonna start going there more often. Love the vibe.</p><p><a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nycfreaks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nycfreaks</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/livemusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>livemusic</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nyc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nyc</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/jazz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jazz</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/closeup" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>closeup</span></a></p>
neddyo<p>Tonight: the best distraction... Tim Berne with his core unit (Belisle-Chi + Rainey) doing their semi-usual thing at Lowlands. No big name guests, so a tidy intimate crowd.</p><p><a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nycfreaks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nycfreaks</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/livemusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>livemusic</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/brooklyn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>brooklyn</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/gowanus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gowanus</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/jazz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jazz</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/timberne" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>timberne</span></a></p>
neddyo<p>Tonight: I feel like if I tried to describe this Thievery Corporation show to you, it'd sound like the most annoying thing ever. But they have *just* the right amount of about 20 different things and, what can I say, it just works. Enjoying this one quite a bit in the end. A worldly dance-o-rama from the royal box at Terminal 5.</p><p><a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nycfreaks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nycfreaks</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/livemusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>livemusic</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nyc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nyc</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/thieverycorporation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>thieverycorporation</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/terminal5" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>terminal5</span></a></p>
neddyo<p>Tonight: started off with a very cool sundown set from a beefed-up Natural Information Society at the Kitchen, a gallery overlooking the Hudson River. One of those special NYC moments, in the round! Excellent NIS drones with Patricia Brennan, William Parker and more. And they're doing it again tomorrow.</p><p><a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nycfreaks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nycfreaks</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/livemusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>livemusic</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nyc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nyc</span></a></p>
neddyo<p>Tonight: wasn't sure I was going to get into LunÀtico tonight, always tough, so when the host says I got a seat for you, you take it. Ends up being an inch from the front of center stage. A little close for comfort, but for Yacouba Sissoko, like a deep cleansing breath of fresh air. Nothing but positive vibes, serious West African grooves, and some of the best kora playing this side of the Atlantic. Thank god for livemusic.</p><p><a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nycfreaks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nycfreaks</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/livemusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>livemusic</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/brooklyn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>brooklyn</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/kora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>kora</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/yacoubasissoko" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>yacoubasissoko</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/lunatico" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>lunatico</span></a></p>
neddyo<p>Tonight: first time at Dada in Ridgewood. Chill spot, I dig it. Killer set going down from guitarist Elias Meister in trio with Scott Colberg and Jeremy Gustin. More jam than jazz, almost Krantzy. I just love watching JG play drums, never seen or heard anyone do it like he does. A mesmerizing groove no matter who he's playing with.</p><p><a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nycfreaks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nycfreaks</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/livemusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>livemusic</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/jazz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jazz</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/jams" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jams</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/eliasmeister" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>eliasmeister</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/jeremygustin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jeremygustin</span></a></p>
neddyo<p>Tonight: the grandiose Father John Misty at the grandiose Kings Theater. Not sure the last time I saw FJM, but he definitely puts on a show! And always good to be at Kings.</p><p><a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nycfreaks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nycfreaks</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/livemusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>livemusic</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/brooklyn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>brooklyn</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/kingstheatre" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>kingstheatre</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/fatherjohnmisty" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fatherjohnmisty</span></a></p>
neddyo<p>Tonight: my third straight "special" Monday livemusic. This time the final Energy Curfew thingamajig of this winter run with the Punch Brothers and (awesome) guests I'm With Her and Amos Lee. Worth enduring the corny jokes for the fantastic music. Lots of cool moments at the Minetta Lane Theatre.</p><p><a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nycfreaks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nycfreaks</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/livemusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>livemusic</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nyc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nyc</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/energycurfewmusichour" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>energycurfewmusichour</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/punchbrothers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>punchbrothers</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/amoslee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>amoslee</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/imwithher" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>imwithher</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/folk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>folk</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/bluegrass" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bluegrass</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/westvillage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>westvillage</span></a></p>
neddyo<p>Tonight: hard to describe the Ambient Church thing (or its spinoff Reflections) if you've never experienced it, but it's one of the cooler livemusic things out there. Tonight in Brooklyn, the legendary Daniel Lanois spinning ambient on pedal steel and more with the walls-are-alive visuals as mindbending as ever on the walls of St Ann's. A soul-stirrer of a set if I've ever experienced one.</p><p>And my 4th show in that church in as many months, I am not complaining.</p><p><a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nycfreaks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nycfreaks</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/livemusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>livemusic</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/brooklyn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>brooklyn</span></a></p>
neddyo<p>Tonight: sometimes you buy the ticket for the opener and when the opener is perhaps your favorite live performer of the past 10 years it's a no brainer. Somehow it's been over a year since I last saw Mary Lattimore live and man did I need the quietude and tranquility of her playing. Performing in duo with Julianna Barwick, that was heavenly and intimate, even in the massive Knockdown Center. I'm sure the headline will also be great.</p><p><a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nycfreaks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nycfreaks</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/livemusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>livemusic</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/marylattimore" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>marylattimore</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/juliannabarwick" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>juliannabarwick</span></a></p>
neddyo<p>Then: short walk up to Barbès and who wouldn't? One of my favorite new local jammers is Tsons of Tsunami. I believe Billy Martin might be a permanent member now. Simon Haynes' band has a uniquely excellent sound and a free spirit. I've said it before, but every time reconfirmed, it's Zappa meets Zorn.</p><p><a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/nycfreaks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nycfreaks</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/livemusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>livemusic</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/brooklyn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>brooklyn</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/parkslope" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>parkslope</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/barbes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>barbes</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/simonhanes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>simonhanes</span></a></p>
